Dr. Downey is awesome. His team is great. The nurses are as knowledgeable and nice as the doctor. It was my first time seeing him. I have chronic pains since 2000. Most of my joints are effected & my condition is getting worse with time. I had multiple surgeries already, besides 10 finger joint fusions, back surgery & clumping of my nerves, Adhesive Arachnoiditis. Only pain medication keep me going. I am on pain meds since 2000 already, but my previous Rheumatologist could not raise my dosage,he got me a referral to pain management in order to get more pain meds. I called 5 clinics & most of them only give pain blocks in your back, thats it. So whats with the rest of my body? My pains are in my whole body, not only in my back. One place even wanted to send me to a shrink first (really??). Lucky for me, I found the Royal Pain Center. Dr. Downey took care of me. He saw my medical records, listen to me, & saw what I am going through. He adjusted my pain meds. I am not taking so much now of the Kidney and Liver damaging Acetaminophen (previous Rheumatologist had me on a higher doses, & doctor Downey recognized it right away & lowered the doses) , but get more pain control medication. I talked to a few patients in the waiting area, asked about their experience with Dr. Downey & all I talked to, they are so thankful to Dr. Downey & his team. Most patients are with Dr. Downey for over 20 (!) years. I am still active, exercise & on my feet all day. I am not ready to lay down & die. Thanks to Dr. Downey I get better through the day with my pains. Thank you so much Dr. Downey.

My husband has been going here for nearly five years. There is no such thing as "pain management". All his doctor does is give him Morphine. Yes, my husband's pain is real, but he doesn't listen to his symptoms, either. He told Dr. Downey that he was dizzy, having sleep problems and headaches, as well as several other symptoms. Did his doctor look into it? No. He gave him sleep medicine! I asked him about any other pain therapy, and he said he didn't know of anything. Really? My husband ended up in the hospital from severe dehydration caused, in part of all the medication he was taking. Did his doctor try something else? No, he went back to Morphine!

Dr. Downey was the first doctor to take me seriously; most all others I've seen over the years would tell me I was "too young" to hurt so badly. Turns out I have a connective tissue disorder, and not only does my body make faulty collagen, but now my body has begun to collapse upon itself. Thanks to Dr. Downey, I am still able to function and work; I want to put off disability for as long as I can. His staff is the most cheerful and professional I've ever dealt with, and the doctor himself is a hoot- he's got the best sense of humor, which helps so much when my whole life has become centered around pain, as well as finding the best ways to cope and deal with it, while still being a productive mom, wife, daughter, friend, employee, and member of society. Thank you, Dr. Downey.
