Was referred to Dr. Onan from my PCP for my chronic low back pain I've dealt with for many years. I figured I would try working with him after experiencing less than desirable results at a Veteran Affairs location. I met with Dr. Onan a total of three times. Right out the gate, Dr. Onan requested that I get an updated X-Ray and MRI. He discovered that one of my discs in my back was degenerative. Dr. Onan was blunt by sharing that he had never operated on my particular disc before, and further noted that my insurance might not pay for the surgery due to it not being a common degenerative disc.
Dr. Onan referred me to have a disco-gram procedure done, in an effort to collect more data. After having the disco-gram done, and reviewing the data, Dr. Onan concluded that the best course of action would be to refer me to a different surgeon to conduct the back surgery. I feel overall that Dr. Onan was honest, and he explained things thoroughly. Dr. Onan even called me after he received the data from the disco-gram, which I certainly appreciated. Trust that if you are referred to Dr. Onan that you will be in great hands. Best wishes to Dr. Onan and all of his staff.

I was experiencing severe pain in my left hip, tingling and numbness in left leg and foot. I could not walk 100 yards without the stabbing pain in my hip being unbearable. I thought this was my hip and might need a hip replacement? This escalated over 3 years. I tried physical therapy for awhile but did not help. Later finding out that it was not a hip problem but my back. I set up an appointment with Dr. Onan, without going in to a very long story I had surgery on March 2, 2016 for a fusion and decompression. My age is 61 and very fit. I'm am now in my 4th month after surgery. I have walked 239 miles (average 2 miles each day) from the day of surgery. I couldn't be more happy with Dr. Onan, his staff and with the outcome! I can walk without PAIN! I have walked more in the last 4 months than the previous 3 years! Thank you Dr. Onan and to your staff. Words can't express----- I am overly HAPPY!!!!
