First time eating mussles and they were amazing! The steamed shrimps were large and flavorful. The waiter was the bartender as well and he still have us a the attention we needed. Great experience!

This was my second visit. My 1st was pleasant, as it turns out, the the service, the fictitious friendliness, & the warm atmosphere was a thin veneer of the true atmosphere. Currently, I am here,I am @ the restaurant / bar as I write this, 2nd visit. I chose to sit @ a table because the bar was full (the bar is where I sat 1st visit). Clearly the bar is the clique table. Remember high school??? If you weren't a "cool kid", "well known", you were dismissed. I thought I was in a business. Where the money mattered, not if you were familiar with the guest patronizing your business, where the financial bottom line mattered, not if the staff new your kid or your job or your favorite color. Where what mattered was that they were delighted to see patrons come to the door & you were made to feel appreciated it didn't matter about your money, popularity, the frequency of your visit, they were just glad to see you. I got here @ 5:00p.m. It's 5:59p.m, I've not been offered a drink, a menu, a smile or a "hello". Good-by Bertha.

Eat Bertha's mussels! Seriously they are so good! The service was also excellent. I highly recommend the pelican shrimp as well. We ordered family style so everyone could try a little of everything. Great experience!

We've been here many times. The mussels are usually good but the last time they were fat and too stringy to chew. After struggling through four of them, I paid the bill and commented on my disappointment.
Here's the lesson. I should have complained before paying, the server told me. She would have taken the nasty critters off my check.
Otherwise, it's a fun, funky joint with locals happily mixing with the tourists.

If you want to have fantastic mussels in Baltimore, this is the place to go! Perfectly prepared so they are plump and tender, with a variety of dipping sauces to try. There is often live music, which adds to the fun vibe. Very casual atmosphere, so no need to dress up. Go and enjoy!
