My husband and I just returned from the Tall Ships' Dinner Cruise totally underwhelmed. The appetizers were a joke (crab cakes over seasoned and dried out) and the dinner buffet was mediocre at best lacking any inspired preparation or presentation. The chicken was over-breaded and while the meat was overcooked the coating was soggy, the salmon was also overcooked and the roast beef ordinary. I can't say anything notable about the accompanying side dishes or salads. Our server, although pleasant, was inexperienced and could never be found. This is in stark contrast to the experience we had three years ago when we chartered the Odyssey for our wedding and were impressed beyond our expectations. Every one of our 200 guests had nothing but praise for the delicious food and attentive service. This level of excellence was again our experience when we returned to celebrate our first anniversary. So it was with eager anticipation that we made reservations for ourselves and two guests to enjoy dinner and the tall ships. Having paid over $100/person once you include the ancillary charges, and then another $75 to guarantee a window seat, we were very disappointed to experience such a decline in quality. In contrast, the tall ships and the mild weather were worthy of 5 stars.
