This is a great place with good beer on tap and some good food to go with it.
The service is beyond friendly. Sal is usually the bartender when I go and he is fast with his service, but also cares enough to ask how you're doing.
He can even tell you a little bit about local fishing if you ask.

The atmosphere was great. I felt like it was a century ago. We had fishfrys. They were large with ample sides but the fish was a little greasy & the fries oversalted. However it was my 1st visit there & I would like to go again sometime to try there German food...but I didn't see any liver dumpling soup...maybe it'll be a soup of the day

Historic, atmospheric, and comfortable real German-American tavern (not kitschy). Our food was good, and I would go back, but it was not to die for. The wiener schnitzel was a little over cooked, and the chicken pot pie under cooked with flavors not melded and savory. I will go back some time to try a couple of the other menu items that looked interesting though. The outside service that we had was excellent.

Good food. Be sure to go for the homemade chips with the meals. Service was a bit slow when we were there. Historic establishment!

Opened in 1868 still looks original but well maintained. Nice staff well managed from a customers perspective. Short walk from Allen across main. Good drinks haven't tried the food. A very mellow atmosphere with a good sense of community.
