We were a party of 3 and confirmed our arrival twice by email, including the day of the tour. Finding parking is difficult on Sunday, so we came 8 minutes late. The guide, Stephen, was very rude with us and said that he gave away our spots. I don't even think there were 20 people there, he was just being mean and spend several minutes scolding us until we just left. Really soured our impression of the city.
I must say that my husband is a tour guide in NYC, and he would never be so unprofessionally rude with clients. Oh, and the tour is not "free", they do expect you to pay and even suggest the price of their "competition".

We took the historical tour with Scott Nelson and I cannot say enough about Scott. Enthusiastic and energetic despite the 95+ temps and humidity. He was so knowledgeable and able to put the history into perspective. Scott was funny and entertaining, respectful of everyone and greeted all who passed the tour. Highly, highly recommended! Thank you, Scott!!

She was a great tour guide! The two-hour tour really made us feel like we had seen everything there was to see, and we felt like we knew the history of that city better than the history of our own town! After the tour, there wasn't much left for us to see on our own, and we felt like it was a day well-spent in Charleston. You do have to pay $3 each online first (make sure to reserve your spot online beforehand otherwise you won't be able to join the tour!), but that money goes to the city of Charleston, not to them. The tour guide was very nice, great at memorizing names and where you're from, and was very practical in recommending restaurants and other places after the tour. You could tell she loved her job and she loved the city. Give her a nice tip afterwards!

Scott was the best! It started pouring during our tour. He got us under shelters as much as possible. Then when the tour got to the point no more shelter was available, he gave the group the choice to trudge on or give up. The group voted to trudge on, and he was a trooper! He continued to give the best tour with all the same details he'd give a group in the sunshine. His knowledge of history, the Charleston specific history, and the enthusiasm he delivers it with made this one of the best tours I've taken....even in the rain!

Scott was an absolutely fabulous tour guide--I would do another tour with him without hesitation. We did the Civil War Tour and it was really awesome to hear the stories of the buildings and spaces we had been passing by without much thought. He did everything he could to keep us cool and hydrated and even pointed out some other great restaurants & museums!
