In July of 2016 I brought a small poster to have dry mounted and framed, and the experience was not great on my end. I'm a pretty passive, forgiving guy in general when it comes to restaurants, shops, etcetera, but over a whole year later I have decided I'm still salty about my experience.

A coworker of mine has a relative that works at Frameshop, so I was comfortable with the recommendation. I took the poster (which came folded) in for the frame job and dry mounting. I knew that dry mounting was irreversible and understood it couldn’t be undone, but I was fine with that because I assumed I’d be pleased with the result and that it would be a great way to preserve and display it… I pick my poster up after some confusion because I was entered into the system as Nathan rather than my proper name, David. No biggie though. Then I take it home, unwrap it, and inspect it. The frame was fine, but the poster’s creases were still very pronounced and there was a protruding bump of an irregular and pointy shape under the poster itself and toward the bottom. Some piece of debris was under the poster when it was mounted. I was told I could bring it in to have another round done to try to eliminate the creases and “air bubble”, so I did. When I came to pick it up again there was a corn hole game going on outside, and I got the sense that I was an annoyance by pulling the associate from the game. When the poster was brought out to me I inspected it and it looked no different at all. I tried to politely express my frustration, but was met with a quick smackdown retort of how I had unrealistic expectations for the product and how he remembered exactly what the poster looked like before the first mounting and this second one (if it happened) and he tried to tell me that it looked “a lot better” than it did before. I mean, really though dude? You’re trying to tell me that this poster I love and have ogled again and again is something that you are more familiar with than I am? You’re going to tell me to my face that my expectations are unrealistic and that I don’t know the piece I brought into your shop as well as you somehow do? Come on now! And to be honest, the unrealistic expectations bit was upsetting because I’ve seen dry mounted work where the creases are real close to unnoticeable, but with my finished product it looks almost like the unfolded poster was just slipped into a frame without the creases being properly pressed out. Also, to reiterate this awful detail, some sort of debris was pressed beneath the poster and I’m convinced that it is not a mere air bubble as the associate I’ve previously mentioned so bluntly informed me.

I’m on a college budget, so getting something done at this shop was a treat to myself and I wanted to take my specialty poster to someplace special rather than a chain. Not only was I disappointed in the product, but I never received a single apology. To be honest, despite my lack of satisfaction with the piece, I doubt I’d be doing this write up if it weren’t for the rude treatment. Even if you think that a customer is a crazy space cadet with loose screws, apologizing to them for their negative experience is supposed to be one of the customer service basics, right?

I liked the bird in the lobby though. He/She would be the only silver lining to my experience.

Amazing! Had a piece done at the Hyde Park 2707 Observatory Ave location and it came out amazing. Cost effective and they will go the extra mile for you.

I have been a neighbor to frameshop for their entire existence. It takes one look around their showroom to know that these gentleman know how to make your piece look phenomenal. They put the art back into the framing industry, and it is truly exceptional.

Whether you are looking to frame your masterpiece or just walking by, it is worth your time to stop in. Their front showroom is always changing, as all recently framed artwork gets hung as it awaits pick-up.

I brought a photograph here for framing after meeting the guys at Second Sunday on Main. Their storefront has many great examples of their custom, solid-wood framing for inspiration.

I had a vision for my piece that I communicated to them and trusted that they would come up with the perfect combination of wood, stain, and mat to realize it. A little under a week later, it was ready. They knocked it out of the park.

The pricing was very reasonable for a solid-wood frame, UV glass, and mat.

I've had 3 frames done here. I had an no idea of how I wanted them framed. The guys at the shop were awesome. I chose two of the frames myself and told them to be creative with the third. The third print is my favorite! I love the reclaimed barn wood
