Came here a little over a month ago to get my kiddo checked out. He was shaking his head a lot, and seemed a little off balance and lethargic. Their office is close to my house and the reviews were great. He's a senior pup, going on 13 this February.

I appreciate the feel of the place. Very relaxing. Everyone that worked there was super nice. The vet who looked at my dog was nice enough...the reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because he figured out a sciatic nerve in my dogs back leg is impeding his walk. Not much, but it's noticeable.

Here's the bad. I went in specifically because I felt my dog possibly had an ear infection, deep down in his ear canal. Vet said he was fine. Blamed the imbalance on the sciatic nerve and old age. Over the past few days it's been getting worse, and today the inside of his ear is swollen, red, and pus filled. We are going to a different vet Monday. I knew better, because I know my dog. I should have listened to my gut instincts and pressed him to check more. It could be a coincidence that an ear infection developed since the visit...but it's highly doubtful. He doesn't shake his head much anymore so this seems like the infection is plateauing.

Also, I believe that veterinarians should be upfront with the costs of extras, especially if a customer requests something. I have nail clippers at home for him...but I'm always terrified I'll cut the quick by mistake and he will hate me forever. If you charge $20 to clip nails, tell your customer. I can get it done for $5 at Petsmart.

Also, charging double the amount for screening, blood work, etc that other places do is ridiculous. I get that the office is in oaklawn/uptown...but give me a break. Acupuncture is awesome, but I'll take an honest, affordable, straight talking veterinarian over this sleek new age bait and switch any day.

I'm just glad I didn't ask them to read my dogs horoscope. Probably would've been $60 added to the the bill.

Wonderful caring team. They understand the importance of combining Western and Easterw medicine to help pets. Pracicing evidence based medicine is very important to the team.

Dr. Gaines is fantastic! Such a friendly guy. After our first visit with him I told all of my friends how knowledgeable he was and how he was an obvious animal lover (hard to imagine, but I swear some vets are not like this). My doodle, Fred Darling, has always hated going to the vet... he still kind of hates it, but much less now ;) By far the best veterinarian in Dallas!

HEAL is a great resource for anyone who has a dog that requires physical therapy, is recovering from surgery, or has other geriatric issues. Dr. Barton specializes in providing veterinary care for senior pets and has really helped to improve the quality of life for my own older dogs. I have been bringing one of my dogs to HEAL for water therapy and acupuncture for over three years and feel lucky to have a specialty clinic like HEAL in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
