Nice and cozy restaurant with friendly staff, I got to talk to the owner and his brother, really friendly.
I got the filet mignon and shrimp and it was good. My only complain was that the filet was medium rare instead of medium but it was still ok!

Absolutely DSM. Been here since 1963.
Old school, dark oak, red vinyl booths, great service and great steaks.
Don't over look the burgers. They are easily in the top 5 in the city of Des Moines.
This is a very small place, 8 booths and 6 tables plus 10 bar seats. Very small, quaint, and unique. The wait on Friday and Saturday nights says it all. Locals LOVE this place.
Have a drink, wait your turn, then enjoy a wonderful meal.
Bon appetit!

Truly a neighborhood place. There are about 8 tables, and 4 booths. Quaint, dark, and wonderful.
The food is legendary. Literally. Jessie's has been in Des Moines since 1963. Anyone who's been in town more than a year or 2 knows about Jessie's. It's not trendy like downtown. But those who appreciate a really good steak know about Jessie's.
The bar is interesting as it feels and acts like a small town tavern. Strangers meet and make small talk while waiting for tables.
I highly recommend Jessie's.

Ive heard rave reviews about this place but as a first time guest it wasn't anything to write home about. It was just average for me. The service was great but that's about it. Very small place. Tight fit. One small bathroom with 1 stall? With all the money you're making you gotta expand. If the front was tight...i can't imagine what the kitchen is like.

Apparently they have never heard of using a bit of seasoning on a steak before cooking it. Even just a bit of salt would have improved the flavor immensely. Also, or maybe even more importantly, there was a log black hair under the steak. On the positive side, they made a delicious ginger ale. Won't be going back.
