Wife and I decided to try something new to eat in DSM. Went to tripadvisor and started looking at all the restaurant reviews. Settled on Ted’s. Everything is average at this place. We went about 5PM on a weeknight and we were the only customers. The lady was nice enough, so service gets 5 stars. After reading some reviews we ordered a piece of baklava $1.25, 1 Coney, and 2 Gyros Platters (one with FETA and one without) and a mountain dew. Total without tip was $23.90. Of course we could not eat it all. If I were to go back I would just get the Gyros. They were very good and I was surprised for DSM. The meat was shaven and not cubed and there was plenty to fill you up with the pita bread. The coney was just a coney. The onion rings were not tasty at all and the fries (both come with Platters) were just fries. I have eaten all over the world and had real Gyros… This was real close! If you go, Go for the GYROS. Thanks for reading.

Great Ice!!! It's thin and slivered small!!! The BEST!! I normally get an extra cup for the road! Good food! Great Employees! Has a 70's feel, especially if you sit at the front window and people watch. Great Fried Pork Tenderloins, Onion Rings, french fries, baklava, burgers, etc. Did i say the onion rings and ICE were GREAT!?!?!

Lots to like about this place, but food could be better. Every decent gyro place in Des Moines seems to suffer from lack of parking, wait times or hours of operation. Ted's makes it easy to eat here and I like their basket concept. Problem is their gyro isn't really good and their fries are worse. Cutting the gyro meat a little thicker and using HIGH heat to fry the edges would help. Either the meat isn't crispy on the edges or the fat renders causing it to taste greasy.

We go here for the Chicago style hot dog. It's about the best you can find this side of the Mississippi. I grew up eating Jimmy's hot dog...the best east if the Mississippi in Chicago.
