The prices here for basic animal care are better than most places in Des Moines. I definitely recommend Afford-A-Care for general checkups and shots.

I didn't like how rough they were with my dog with a neck injury and told me to give him 30 days and if he wasn't better put him down. Got a second opinion same day he had a surgery and now youd has no idea the injury ever happened. Very unfriendly or kind staff.

I needed routine Thyroid medication for my dog and instead of prescribing him 1.0 medication he was prescribed .1 which made him extremely sick. The upside of this is the entire office took this accident extremely serious and because of this, the protocol for dispensing medication has been changed so that this never happens again.
Crystal who works at the front desk and has for years is Always helpful, cheerful and a joy to work with. They would have received 5 stars if it hadn't been for this incident.

I have been going to this vet for a few years now. I took my dog in today to get his shots updated and they gave him shots that he wasn't due for yet. When i call it to their attention they said we can refund you and fact like it never happened. Very poor customer service. As a doctor even if it's just for an animal you should always check the file to provide the correct care. I will be finding a new vet ASAP. Also, while there another patient was claiming that they killed her puppy. Cost will not be a factor in determining which vet I trust to properly care for my furbaby.

Took my wonderful 22 year companion here to have him put to sleep, which was so difficult for me as I did not want to let him go. They were so friendly and understanding! IF I ever decide to get another animal, this is where I would take them! They put us in a room by ourselves so we could say our goodbyes. I had called the day before and was so distraught and thought they said to have my baby there before 5pm but when we had gotten there they told me they couldn't do it that day and began to give me the name of a different place as I was crying the nurse ran in the back to see if the doctor was still there which she came back out and said they would help. Would recommend this place to anyone! And they are very affordable! !!!
