Close to campus, affordable, not spacious but manageable

The buildings are older, but the area is close to campus and is relatively safe.

One word: Cheap apartments. You get what you pay for and can't pick your neighbors.

I live here currently, and it's a pretty cool place. I love how big my large studio apartment is, and that I can get natural sunlight at any point in the day from any of my 4 windows. The view is none too bad. Its fantastic for the price and the convenience of location.
I can't hear my neighbors through the walls, there's always hot water and they always give us notices about events our managers have in the multi purpose room. The manager, Veronica, is always available and very personable. It's close enough to places that you can go if you want. The third story apartments (the ones I have seen atleast) have lofts in them for additional storage. If you have firearms they can't be in the apartment but security has a system that lets you keep them there and you can get to them 24/7.
Downsides - the floors are very hard. I'm serious, bring slippers or a rug to pad it a bit.
Baseboard heating. But there are seperate controls for nearly all the heaters so you can turn some on and leave some off if you want to put furniture in front of them.
When people are on the landing between your door and your neighbors door, you can hear them.
The windows sometimes need additional force to close (but you don't pay for heating. So it's an easy fix)
You can't set up wifi. Let me repeat that. YOU. CANNOT. SET UP. WI-FI.They supply an ethernet port in the front of my studio apartment and at the back of it. I HAVE to have my laptop plugged in if I want to access the internet. The school WiFi doesn't reach us. IT IS A PAIN, but free internet is still FREE.
The cable tv sometimes fuzzes or blanks if the wind is going too hard. Not for long, just long enough to miss the end of that ONE important sentence. But again, free. Not complaining too much since it rarely happens.
You need to handwash your dishes, and scrape them. Garbage dumpsters are by the mailboxes.
My shower backs up like a mini bath if I don't vigorously brush my hair before showering. The drain is an actual metal strainer and ANYTHING in it will result in it backing up until you clear it.
CAN'T BRING PETS. NO PETS ALLOWED. WORST PART, BIGGEST PROBLEM, ONLY ONE WITH NO SOLUTION. NO PETS.
Most of the problems are easily fixed, or free and therefore not worth freaking about. I'm not paying extra for it, and these problems rarely come up (with the exception of the shower, which is compounded with my long hair - the pets issue I was warned about)
It really is a nice place to live overall and I would suggest it to any starving college students, or the students who want to be independent from dorms but close enough to still be involved with the school and students. Plus, we have our own parking lots and it's fabulous.
