The Waikiki Beachside Hostel is as basic as it gets for a hostel. I have a sneaking suspicion that it used to be an apartment complex, but the only evidence I have for that is the layout of the 8-person room I stayed in. The room was in a reasonably good condition, and the bed and pillow, while uneven and lumpy, surprisingly provided a good night's sleep. I do wish there were more power outlets in convenient locations, and the wifi was really spastic, especially in the evenings. But for the price and location, it's not too bad of a choice if you need a cheap place to stay in Waikiki.

No air conditioner in my 4people-in one room so it's hot sometimes, and in evening outside gets noisy. But the locations and kitchen, and price is cool.

I used to love t his hostel but they have become very racist these days. Just because we belong to a different creed these people started discriminating us. I don't even want to talk about the room condition . Over a few years they have lost the charm they used to have. Also the WiFi is not great. The staff is very good except this Daniel person, he's a very racist fellow. He shows off. He says that we are not qualified enough to be at this hostel. Really ? I'm paying you upfront money and have all the ID's which are regulated by the state of Hawaii i don't know what else he needs ? I wouldn't be this nagging person but this service is not good. Hope they improve !

A great place. There are not many hostels in the states, but this is a good one. The breakfast is pretty good and in a chill area on the ground level. It feels cozy and reception knows a lot about the island and can answer questions. The location is perfect for the nightlife of Waikiki and as a jumping off point for the rest of the island. I liked that even the "8-person" rooms were made up of two 4-person rooms so there was more privacy than if it was one big 8-person room.

We arrived on a later flight and we're looking forward to a comfy place to sleep. I knew we weren't checking into a 4 star hotel or anything, but I was hoping for something decent enough to get some sleep and relax. This was not the case. The blinds in our room we broken, the shower/bathroom looked dirty and dingy. The air conditioner, though thankful to have had something, barely cooled our room down. The beds were awful; we only received flats sheets to make them, there was only one, thin, lumpy pillow to sleep on and I could feel every single spring in that mattress. I didn't sleep that night, but made use of my time finding a nice hotel nearby to check into the next day.
Luckily, we did get a full refund for the nights we were not staying, and they let us store our bags there for $5 each until check in time at the hotel we were moving to. For these reasons and the fact that the staff were really nice, I'm giving two stars. However I would not stay here again nor recommend this place to anyone. I know hostels are cheap and pretty bare bones, but this was officially my first experience with one. If they're all on this level, I'm going to steer clear.
