Absolutely loved this place. Wife and I stopped in after driving around on beautiful day with top down on convertible.
We were greeted immediately and told to choose any table (went around 5pm on a Saturday). Gentleman came up and told us we needed to try the homemade lemonade! It was wonderful.
He then suggested some of the homemade enchiladas with shrimp and tamales. Charro beans were the best I have ever had. Food was amazing. Atmosphere great and laid back. Watched a little football and enjoyed the afternoon.
Irma came out to greet us and thanked us for stopping by.

Loved the atmosphere!! Great customer service and food was great. Even served a free piece of cake for their "newbies." Felt right at home.. pricey but no complaints.. very satisfied!

Love the atmosphere .... I didn’t like the fact there wasn’t a menu with prices. Portions are very small. Husband was ok with his, mine not so much. The reason I like seeing the menu is I like knowing what is in the food I’m eating. Location is good for the business it’s by Minute Maid. Prices are high... . Sorry it’s just not a place for me.

I have been a vendor at the Quilt Show in Houston for ten years now and every year we come to Irma’s Original with a group of 10-20 people. Irma and her family are so excited to see us even though we only come that one night each year. One year our shuttle didn’t show us to bring us back to our hotel because we “closed the place down” after hours. So Irma’s sons offered to drive us all back in their personal vehicles.
It’s true, they don’t have a menu, don’t give you the prices ahead of time and it is not “cheap,” we are never disappointed with the food, drinks, service and getting the opportunity for Irma to come out and greet us and take pictures with us all. She even offers some “free” dishes to try out.
Our group every year grows and grows and we all look forward to this wonderful night at Irma’s every year. If I lived in Houston I would go often. I have recommended Irma’s Original to many people, even our customers who live in town. Since coming, Irma’s sons have opened two other restaurants in town. They have also expanded the space in the restaurant but we love being seated in the back “original” restaurant (and bathroom) with all of the eclectic decor that makes you feel like you are home.
Thank you, Irma, for treating us like family every year. We all will be back! Matter of fact I need to make a reservation for 16 in your “back” room please, for Thursday, November 2.

Family owned and operated. Fabulous Tex-Mex. Momma still does all the cooking. Cleanest restaurant that I have ever experienced. Highest quality food made with love. Best service in Houston. Stellar margaritas. Food that melts in your mouth! Very cool decorations! Never have seen a speck of dust.
