I'm getting discharged. I'm still sick, having trouble holding food down, nauseous and in pain. But it doesn't matter. The hospitalist feels that sending me home with pain and nausea medication is better than me being monitored by the professionals here at UMMC. According to him, I'm at great risk of contracting nosocomial infection here and we don't want that. The nurses were awesome. I was told that I am more than welcome to return to the ER if and when the pain returns. I'm not sure if I should be grateful or hurt for essentially being kicked out of the sickbed. Oh am I wrong in assuming that should I care to return, the doctor will foot the bill?

This Hospital actually DESERVES a 5-Star Rating!!!
I was transferred here from a Small Local Hospital in Natchez after not going to Dialysis Treatment for 10 Days. NO LIE....The ONLY Kidney Doctor for the area was gone on Vacation so I had to be transported by Ambulance to Jackson in the middle of the night.
The Staff in the ER were FANTASTIC!! Everything was going good until they told me to drink 2 cups of this Nasty Brown Liquid. I somehow managed to get it all down....then EVERYTHING in my bowels felt like mush & before I could get to the bathroom & open the door, the Gates of Noah's Arc burst open & All this Yellow water (Potassium) flooded the floor! It happened again once I sat on the Toilet after a Staff Member informed me that more would probably come out.
I must have passed out afterwards because next thing I kneww, I was getting settled in my Room Upstairs on the 6th floor I believe.
The Dialysis Unit here is Great & the Staff is Very Sweet! This is where I seen my 1st & only Child on Dialysis. This little white girl had a Catheter in her Chest, Pajamas & holding on to her Stuffed Animal while she walked slowly towards a special glass room with Sodt Pastel Colors & Baby Animal Pictures on the walls. The Nurse said This is The ONLY Pediatric Dialysis Center in the entire State! Children come from as far as 4-Hours away to get their Blood Clean.

I was admitted 10/25/2015 and was discharged 11/18/2015. For 7 of my 24 days I was a guest of the IC UNIT. I was kept unconscious or in surgery most of those 7 days. I was forever changed by the OUTSTANDING care I received by almost every person on staff at UMMC. Not only did the doctors, RN's, CNA's, physical therapists, food service workers, housekeeping staff, and literally every last UMMC employee I encountered during my 24 days save my life, but always treated me with compassion, dignity, respect, and a genuine concern for me and also for my 18 year old daughter as she struggledg seeing her only living parent fight for life. Never, did anybody responsible for me do or say anything to upset me, or my family. Regardless of how much pain I was in or how sleep deprived I became, the level of care I received remained unchanged!! Now, a year later, I am still, under the care of the nations top Orthopedic surgeons!! Dr.Graves is about to perform my fifth surgery in just over a year. He never gives up, and neither will I!! I thank God and the staff of UMMC for saving my life. More Importantly than that is how they all.have helped me to be a better person as well. I recommend UMMC IF YOU WANT THE BEST CARE GIVEN BY THE BEST MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS!! 😷

I had an emergency C section on Oct 3rd 2016. When I woke up no one told me where my daughter was or where my family was. I didn't find out that my daughter was put on oxygen and I had hemorrhaged during her birth until 8:00 am the next morning. The nurses seemed to take really good care of her at first. I live 2 hours away and the social worker would not work with me to get my daughter in the Ronald McDonald house. Even though my daughter was in the nicu and I'm breast feeding. I'm disappointed with this hospital I can't even describe my disappointment. Then today after I had to leave my baby at the hospital and go back to meridian I discovered they weren't even taking good care of her. My poor baby was sitting in poop literally all over her crib and they just left her in it. If I didn't say anything I'm not even sure the nurse would have changed it. Then they put a blanket super close to her face again all the nurses were talking and I noticed that it was too close to my baby's face. Retrain your nurses!!! This is how babies die from SIDS!! I'm going to be calling every hour from my house now I'm so uncomfortable with leaving her here. Don't go far if you choose to leave your loved ones In this hospital the second you leave the second the quality of care drops significantly.
