My family has been using this hospital for various reasons as long as I can remember. Over the last week I have been here with my husband and am currently here with my mother. Both times have been on the 2nd floor just 2 doors apart. I have never seen such rude incompetent staff and I have been a nurse for 30 years. My mom has been really sick and was transferred here for a " higher" level of care, well I don't know how much lower you can get. The only nice people have been a NP and a Respiratory Therapist. Other than those two I have had my head snapped off 3 different times today by 3 different people, one of them a lady hospitalist who refused to answer my question. She told me I could ask my sister because she had already explained it to her.
Now the facility itself is a story of it's own, mold growing around bathroom sink, naked electrical wires near my mother's reach on her bed, that the third person I told finally wrapped them with clear adhesive tape.
I JUST WONDER WHAT A LITTLE PHONE CALL TO JOINT COMMISSION OR THE STATE INSPECTOR WOULD ACCOMPLISH? I might just find out.
We received far superior care in Newport.

The nurses in the ER show zero lack of care when taking care of the patients. No safe practices when administering medicines. No safe practices when drawing blood. Yelling at a mentally disabled patient. No updates on plan of care. Leaving disabled patient lying in her own urine and family members having to clean them up. No call light or safe environment maintained in the room of disabled patient. Absolutely poor care.

Awful. Terrible service. Won’t let you leave. My wife actually overheard the ICU nurse say “I don’t want to wait on her anymore”. This is the ICU. When you are pumping people full of drugs and it causes them to go to the bathroom constantly and you get mad at them if they try and go to the bathroom by themselves there is a problem. You should not have to press the nurse button in the ICU and wait 30 minutes for them to respond when they only have two patients each. We are still here currently and calling an attorney to find out what our rights are and how to get the hell out of here since they just keep finding some reason to put more drugs in her. It started out great and as we moved from the neurosurgical ICU to the main ICU it went downhill quickly. If I could give 0 stars I would.

can i give 0 stars. This was the worst place i have ever dealt with. My son had major neck surgery after braking his neck. They sent him home 2 days after surgery after he told the, he had no help at home and he was not able to walk very well alone. He ended up calling me and i live 12 hours away in the middle of the night i had to drive there to help him because he could not care for himself at all. He was not able to get up to get anything to drink or even shower( After being in the hospital for 5 days and no one there helped give him even a bed bath.) I can not believe you call yourself a hospital. The excuse i got when i called to see why the send him home was he didn't have a primary doctor so they could not get him into home health . Really i mean just send him home alone then and let him figure it out himself. If you have anyone that needs hospitalization do yourself a favor and do not send then there.

I hate to even give them one star! The rooms are 'old' and smelly..food is horrible! Husband was in ICU and the nurses were on their cell phones and standing around drinking coffee while waiting on shift change. When you finally can get help they act as if you are bothering them by huffing and puffing! This wouldn't happen at UT!! Most dr.s were nice, but they act as if they're better than the patients! If you can make it to UT or Ft Sanders emergency room then go there. Admitting staff were hateful too. It must be in their water or something cos the only nice person we encountered was the cleaning lady!!
