One of my favorites because its nearby. Fresh sushi decent prices. The location is super sketchy but try it if you like sushi.

Absolutely the best authentic sushi in Lexington, no question. For those complaining about the location, non-fancy interior, or waiters: if you want a glitzy, showy, cheesy stereotypical American "Japanese" experience, go to some hibachi place and get your shrimp flipped into your mouth after being amazed by the sake/onion volcano. If you want REAL sushi prepared by a master sushi chef, you're gonna have to learn to be patient instead of having a fast-food mindframe. Sugano is the place to go for awesome sushi; Benihana is for the rest of the complainers.

This is one of the few authentic Japanese restaurants in this area (even in the whole state of Kentucky). The head is a friendly, jovial Japanese sushi chef with many years under his belt. He is very skilled and prepares very-good sushi (especially considering the region that we're in). Other standard Japanese fare is available--they are authentic and have a homey feel to them that makes you nostalgic--but not necessarily extraordinary. Overall a little pricey but totally worth it. We occasionally drive all the way from Louisville to eat here!
