Had to wait in line for my drink. Country atmosphere. Nice place to eat. Remember my childhood at David Beards cat king.

I grew up eating at a Catfish King restaurant in the Dallas area, until the restaurant closed down. I was traveling through the Longview area earlier this year and found this Catfish King along the way. The food was EXCELLENT. It still rates as my absolute favorite fried catfish place. The ladies behind the counter were also very friendly. I wish I lived closer to this place.

I was traveling through the Longview area earlier this year and found this Catfish King along the way. The food was EXCELLENT. It still rates as my absolute favorite fried catfish place. The ladies behind the counter were also very friendly. I wish I lived closer to this place.

I give it 4 stars only because the fish is so good. Everything else?... not so much. The little, crispy log hushpuppies have been replaced with dry, flavorless dough balls. Prices have increased.
This place seems to be struggling to stay open, and they're cutting back on ancillaries to do it. Father's day was also our 51st anniversary, and the place was as busy at lunch as I'd ever seen it.
The store is dingy and not very happy. Fewer employees have too much to do. There are fewer and fewer items on the salad bar: cole slaw is soupy, salad is straight out of the bag, small paper cups for condiments are messy and inconvenient. Ubiquitous red geletin cubes are still there, but gone are the tasty, pickled green tomatoes. No fresh lemon slices to squeeze onto the fish.
I really hope this store finds a way to stay open, but I'm not optimistic.
