I have been a customer of the Wilshire Beauty Supply store on Vine for over ten years, but not after today. Although their merchandise tended to be over- priced their location was convenient. This morning I browsed around for ten minutes or so. I inquired about the price of a “30-50 % discounted” item, and the sales-woman quoted an inflated price $4.00 dollars over the normal retail price. She explained that this was a very famous brand. I put it back. She didn’t miss a beat and suddenly said in this tone, “You know you have to leave your bag (I had my gym bag) at the door; there is a sign on the door (not visible because the door was totally open.) The owner in the back wants this.” Her rude manner and leering at my bag came only after no sale was made. Did she want to search my bag? Oh no, she said in a too exaggerated tone. I have never shoplifted in my life and I'm not about to begin at the Wilshire Beauty shop in a strip mall on Vine! If she ever visited Roger & Gallet in Paris, in the Rue Saint-Honore, she would not be mistreated like this, though they might tell how to pronounce properly the“famous brands” she wants to sell.
