In regard to the comment below: If you are going to mass, you should be reverent and respectful. Chewing gum in the presence of Christ is not acceptable, no matter your social status in the community.

This is a beautiful building in downtown Lynchburg. The people here seem friendly and polite. An in reference to the negative comment below, if you're stupid enough to chew gum in church then you probably don't belong indoors in the first place.

My husband and I had a very bad experience with Mr. Arturo Fernandez. During a Spanish Mass, he came to my husband with a napkin asking him to put away his gum. Treating my husband this way, as a child, was very insulting and disturbing to us. My husband, a college professor, is a very respected member of the community. We consider Mr. Fernandez action was not in the spirit of Christianity. Surely, God would not care if we chew gum during Mass! Thus, we have stopped attending the Spanish Mass.
