We went tonight, for a friend's birthday. He had never been here before and was quite excited. In the past, we have always had a great time. We were charged a $5 cover each, then told after getting in, that it would be an hour and a half wait. We were told we could get drinks and appetizers while we waited, but appetizers we only available at the main bar that was ridiculously crowded. Decided we would go to the News Room (connected) as it wasn't quite as busy. We waited at the bar for 10 minutes, with three staff behind the bar. We didn't get so much as a "Hi, I'll be with you in a minute." I'm pretty sure not one of them even noticed we were there, because, in spite of making drinks and bar backing, none of them even looked up from the drinks being poured from the tap, directly in front of us. Having bar tended myself in the past, it was inexcusable. Even on the busiest shifts, basic customer service skills should be used. We walked out ultimately, having spent $15 on 30 minutes of wasted time. After this experience, I don't plan on going back, nor will I recommend this place to anyone again. It's a shame, because it used to be an awesome place. Wound up going to a different establishment nearby and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

A very eclectic location. A must for first timers to Milwaukee. The drinks and food are priced above value. The ambience of old has given way to market pressure and customer throughput. A must see but the "Safe House" nostalgia needs resuscitation.

My wife and I took our daughters here for lunch. This place has great atmosphere. Our daughters really had a fun time at this place. We explored the entire restaurant, watched the magician/bartender, and played the pre-meal scavenger hunt. The food was average at best, and was a little expensive. I would not recommend this place based solely on food. You must be up for an adventure. If you’re going out to sit, eat, and drink, then this probably isn’t the place for you. I would definitely go again.

Safe House was an interesting time. The place itself had enough reading and exploring to keep us entertained for 30 minutes while waiting for our table. Once that time passed we had to wait another 20 minutes to be seated at a table that had been empty the entire time we were waiting. After ordering it took another 40 minutes to hound our waiter down (we still hadn't been served our food) when we then asked for our check. He responded that the manager would be out to speak with us momentarily but after waiting another 10 minutes we just wanted our check at that point. The manager did offer us a coupon. Bottom line, maybe go to Safe House for a drink but definitely not to eat.

Ate here last week when we came into town for a show at the Riverside Theater. Pretty cool concept for the restaurant with spy-theme stuff inside. Food was pretty good, but it did take a little bit longer than usual to get our dinner. Our waiter, Dark Phoenix, definitely made it a fun time there. Perfect place if you're looking for something different than the typical "trendy" downtown restaurants.
