It was awful. It's supposed to be a safe shelter for families that are homeless. Felt mostly safe but remember who you are living next too. A lot of families that have been down for a long time. We were lucky that this was temporary and only needed it for a short time. The rooms are bare essentials. The bathroom looked like it was out of a horror movie. They didn't replace the tub wall properly to it was peeled back partially, revealing black mold underneath. Gross. The lobby is historically beautiful but that's it. Do not stay unless you have no other options. It costs $33 a person per night and they will depend your paycheck if you are working. Not helpful to get back on your feet.

I feel like im in jail. I seen a mice within 2 minutes of being here . Killed 3 mice been here going on 2 weeks. The hallways smell like pee. They take all your money and give u 3 diapers s day. Like really go somewhere else if u could.

This is a flophouse. Yes, it acts as a shelter in emergency situations which is a good service for the community, but it really feels like if the city planned even the slightest amount ahead of time that they'd use a slightly better facility. I'm not suggesting putting people up in the Hilton, but maybe just in a place that didn't treat all guests like some kind of shifty vagrant.
Given, the clientele for the Francis Drake likely includes some shifty vagrants; it also includes people who are down on their luck or merely in an emergency situation, and it'd be nice if the staff were able to distinguish between them. Run-down interior ("historic!") and sub-par food (also "historic" maybe? didn't see expiry date). I feel like a lot more could be done with this place. It's not a bad location or a bad looking building on its own... but really, pick somewhere else if you have a choice.
