Hiked from the Maurice Avenue trail access point to the top of Mt. Sentinel and back on a Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm round trip.
Be careful of bike traffic. All I encountered were respectful but many were going fast enough (from behind) that I got spooked a bit as they approached rapidly.
It is about 3 miles to the "T" where you start the last mile and, ultimately, the last very steep hill. I took the main path up, did not take any of the "no bikes" routes up or down. Go through the orange gate for the last 1/2 mile...Incidentally the last ascent becomes a "first descent" if you take the same way down. It is VERY steep and slippery in places. I almost fell.
This is probably known to locals, but being an outsider, I did not know that the access from the parking lot crosses private ground. It is a private drive, but trail users are permitted to use the driveway. I did not know this, but hoped it was the case. The "Private Drive" sign may cause you to reconsider, but don't worry, it's allowed.
Overall, I had a great 8-mile hike on a beautiful day. Great views are such a satisfying reward for the climb!
