Location to downtown was great and completely walkable which helped give this a 3 star rating. The hotel itself was sub-par. As soon as I walked into my room, I fell as there was a ledge/step to actually get down into the room itself (which whatever, just a bizarre layout with the sink in the bedroom and the bathroom up a “level”). Taking a shower, it clearly was never cleaned as someone’s wadded up hair was on the shower wall. No vending to grab a bottle of water (as I didn’t want to drink from this sink), so I was told to go to the grocery store. Glad it was only one night.

Pretty cool hotel. Parking on the street(s) outside is the only free option for parking, otherwise you can pay to park in a garage. Decent location, if you're driving. The room was cool, but kind of weird with the sink in the main room.

Excellent location near Bart and the convention center. Has a lot of old time charm, with a nice old-fashioned bar in the lobby and a cool, old elevator. Rooms were pretty cramped but seemed recently updated.

Very good service from the moment we arrived. The location was excellent for exploring Oakland, and just a minute away from the BART, allowing convenient access to San Francisco and the airports. The building is old, but in a good state of repair. However, it does mean limited power sockets in the bedrooms, and slightly temperamental AC. The breakfast was passable, but the coffee and cutlery were often running out, and there was a very limited selection of foods - most notably, no fresh fruit. Just a slight improvement to the breakfast would mean this is a four-star review.

For the price, this hotel can't be beat. Location is great, right on the edge of Old Oakland with plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance, and two blocks from 12th street BART. I enjoyed my room. It was a little small, but how much room do you really need. Staff was friendly and attentive. The hotel bar is only open Monday - Friday.
I loved that my room had an exterior window and an atrium window.
