The reviews are poor for a reason. The gym is, well, a gym. Just like any other gym in the area it has weights, treadmills, racquetball courts, a pool, and a sauna. The equipment is clean and taken care of.
However, the staff (specifically the management) is deplorable. After a recent interaction with the Oceanside GM, I was patronized, scoffed at, lied to, and misdirected. Unfortunately, it seemed, the GM was more concerned with texting than addressing a customer's issue.
What's worse is I wrote to the corporate regional VP with my concerns and haven't heard a peep. A business shouldn't treat paying customers like trash and shouldn't protect abusive employees.
If you're looking for a gym, great - you've found it. Rest assured, though, all you are is cash to them.

Terrible management who treats their members with disrespect as soon as they upsell them on a memberhsip. Rules constantly change: one day you are able to use a certain area, one day you don't. They will literally stop you in the middle of your set and tell you you can't use a certain part of the gym. Pooooooor customer service and not fitness friendly environment.

Initial thoughts:
On my first visit I walked in with the 14-day pass my wife provided me with. I sat around waiting for a salesman to "assist" me as if it is a car dealership. The wait was not long; maybe five minutes, before Eric the salesman walks up. He sees me in my swim trunks with flip flops on and I tell him I came for a swim.
He scans me in and starts my pass on this day as I expected.
I make my way to the pool to find it filled with old women in a class. I ask Eric if the pool has open hours or something and he explains that I have come at the beginning of the one hour out of the twenty-four day that there is some kind of old people class in there.
Now I am upset because other than thoughtlessness I can see no reason why he would not tell me I may want to come back in an hour or on another day. He must have thought I am some jobless bum who had time to sit there for an hour and wants to jump in immediately after the larger-than-usual herd of people finished sweating and taking their departing urines in it. I made it clear I came ONLY for swimming yet he started the clock anyway, wasting a drive, that day's pass, and my time.
I do have a life and a job and it is far too busy to sit around for an hour waiting for the pool to open up. Apparently Eric and LA Fitness don't think so.
Update: I went in with my wife a second time a few days later after looking online at their class times, and the pool was closed. I am done wasting gas and time on this joint. Good luck.

Up until this point, I had a great experience at LA Fitness but unfortunately, all of that was spoiled by the horrible customer service I received when I tried to downgrade my personal training contract at this location. After fulfilling my six-month contract, I spoke with someone who I thought was the personal trainer coordinator over the phone and was told everything had been taken care of, and my account had been downgraded. After being overcharged two months in a row, several phone calls, and on-site visits, I was told that I hadn't followed the proper procedures to downgrade, and should have signed a downgrade document (which I was never given to sign). Initially, the manager I spoke with acted like I wouldn't be able to get a refund for those two months, and then ended up refunding me for one month, and forcing me to use up the remaining sessions in a 10-day span before the end of the month (or the final billing date as they refer to it).
Beware when signing or making changes to any type of contract with LA Fitness, and make sure that you ask for confirmation for any changes you make on your contracts or they will try to screw you over! So disappointed to be treated so poorly, when it was actually their own neglect that had caused the issue. Also, it is pretty much impossible to find or contact the corporate offices when trying to deal with these shenanigans. I used their "contact us" email option online, and didn't receive any feedback until after I had already dealt with the situation myself. Not customer friendly at all. If you are considering signing a contract with them, I would highly advise against it.

I really liked this LA fitness. It can get pretty crowded early in the mornings and after work, understandably, but it never gets too bad. The whole gym is always clean and you regularly see the maintenance staff going around vacuuming and cleaning stuff up. They also make a great effort in staying out of your way and not disturbing your workout.
They have plenty of machines and it's all on 1 floor so going up and down for your workout. Everything is nice a spread out. The staff are all pretty nice. If you get your complimentary personal training session it's a great way to learn about weights. The trainers can be a big pushy, but they are trying to sell you sessions so it makes sense.
The men's locker room is big and pretty clean. They have a lot of showers and 1 huge handicap accessible shower. There is also a nice sauna inside.
The pool is great, it is right outside both locker rooms and is always warm. They have extra wide 5 lanes that only get crowded during rush times but are more than comfortable for 2 people sharing a lane.
The jacuzzi is nice and can get crowded a bit. Some people mentioned how it always has this foam in it and sometimes there can be visible dirt at the top of that pile.
Overall though, you will have a great experience here.
