Shofuso is an amazing, and historic, cultural treasure for Philadelphia located in a great setting in Fairmount Park. It was a gift to the United States after World War Two to symbolize peace and friendship between the two countries. Today it is a space for Japanese culture events like tea demonstrations and classes, storytelling events, celebrations of Japanese holidays, and other fascinating cultural lessons. The house itself is a bit small, so while it is always enjoyable to visit and take in the atmosphere, it would be best to visit on a day when there is a festival going on so you can take part in a cultural experience in the perfect setting.

This was a fantastic exploration through a authentic Japanese house- both with displays and interactive art-ups. The zen garden is beautiful and with plenty of colorful eager koi fish.

Great place for pictures when you go on a slow day. The garden is small but absolutely heavenly. :)

I expected more from this Japanese garden after reading all the reviews.
First, the price. Entrance for adult-$10. If you have a student id with you-$5.
Second, the size of the place. If is to small... And I think $10 is a lot for 20 minutes walking. First you enter Japanese house( you have to remove your shoes before entering, socks required), there are room, bathrooms, restrooms. Then you go outside and you see beautiful garden with trees. Garden is nice and for some time you can feel that you are in Japan.

The staff were so kind, helpful, and very informative. The gardens were beautiful, as was the house. Went in the the summer time, and plan on going again once every season because we were told it looks completely different with each season. Took my one year old son and he loved feeding the koi fish. Also very cute and reasonably priced souvenirs. Worth every penny. I was a,so told they do cultural events and I also plan on attending to one with my family. Stunning. Peaceful. Educational. Would recommend this to everyone I know.
