Had to get the flagship roast pork sandwich on my first time here. I can't wait to come back and try some other options. The line was pretty short and moved quickly on Thursday for lunch, but the cashier told me that weekends are an absolute Zoo.

The food is amazing. I never imagined a time where I would feel compelled to give them a mediocre review, let alone a bad one. But, the customer service there can be credited for pushing me to this point.
The last 2 times I've called them to place an order for pick-up, I've been told "no". The second to last time, I got "There's no line right now, just come in" - CLICK. Anybody want to guess what had happened by the time I got there?
The last time I tried to call and order, I was told "There's a line out the door, we're not taking phone orders" - CLICK. To me, that says "we have enough customers, we don't need you too". Heaven forbid they throw some extra meat on the grill and cook multiple steaks at the same time.
So, they won't take a phone order if there's too few people there, and they won't take a phone order if there are too many people there. Maybe they can reveal their magic formula for when customers will be allowed the privilege of ordering by phone.
I don't live in the area anymore, so when I'm coming back, I've already driven for 2 hours (30 minutes out of my way just to get there, IF traffic is decent), so who wants to wait 30-45 minutes for their food? Furthermore, when I am coming back to visit friends or family, I have my rescue dog with me, and he cannot be left in the car while I wait.
Then there was the time a few summers ago, before they stayed open until 7, when I got stuck in traffic on my way in and they literally shut the grill down as I walked in the door, and didn't care that I just drove in from Harrisburg and roasted in gridlock on the Schuylkill to try to make it there. Nice to see a business that appreciates customer loyalty!
I've been going there whenever I could for 16 years now, and whenever anybody would ask me where to get the best steak or pork, I would tell them to go to John's. But they've hit their third strike, and I won't be going back, nor giving them any more free advertising.

I can't eat wheat (and therefore bread) but really wanted to experience cheese steak while in Philadelphia and John's had great reviews. When I tried to order any kind of grilled meat or cheese steak without the bread I was told "we have no way to do that." When I looked confused they told me they don't have bowls or anything they could put it in.
"What about in one of those serving bowls on the shelf behind you?" Said they those are only for fries and they aren't allowed to serve meat without bread.
My husband (who can eat bread) decided to get a sandwich, which we had to wait 35 minutes for.
I don't know where else to send you instead but this place is not it.

Saw this place on a food channel and had to try it. Long lines move pretty quick. Had the roast pork sandwich and the cheese steak. No cheese whiz here, just real cheeses like mild and sharp provolone cheeses. Rolls were great, sandwiches where very filling. Outside dining only. The place sits on a corner..we parked across the street in the shopping center.

On my drive in from Florida John's roasted pork's reviews convinced me to drive 40 miles out of my way to get a Chicken Philly cheese steak. My son and his best friend were with me and I must admit the food was amazing!! However, the service was horrible!!! The owner John refused to wear gloves and then to serve me because I asked that they not touch my good with dirty hands. Luckily he had an amazing employee that said "I got you" and gloved up to prepare my food. I am very grateful for him and John should be too. That young man will accomplish success because he understands that sometimes it is the small things like clean hands and gloves that will make a customer happy. Sadly I will not return. Best wishes!
