I went to pick up my Zipcard at the downtown office and ask some questions as a new member. I immediately felt like an annoyance for interrupting the employee's personal phone conversation (his name is Jake and he should be fired). He did not get off the phone to help me, but rather kept the phone to his ear and quickly got me my card. I told him I had a few questions, which he seemed displeased to hear. I asked one or two questions (though I had many more), and he answered them quickly, while still holding the phone to his ear and talking to the person on the other end between my questions. I went into the office hoping to gain insight into using the program, but the experience was very uncomfortable and unwelcoming.

It has been a great experience so far. There was one day I thought I wrongly got charged a large late fee but it turns out it was a simple misunderstanding/mistake on my part and they explained how to avoid it next time, customer service was super helpful and refunded me since it was a first mistake. Thanks for being awesome.

I have been using Zip Car for years in a variety of cities around the world...a great service all round. No Complaints at all. Thanks for the friendly service and continually striving to make the system easier to use.

The concept is grand; car rentals basically on demand. My wife and I, however, just can't seen to pin down at what point the service actually saves us any money and isn't really as convenient as it could of been.

Not being in downtown Portland, the cars were far and few between. From my apartment in Raleigh Hills it was a 45+ minute bus/max trek to the nearest vehicle before the recent initiative to partner with TriMet and have them stationed at the transit centers.

Prices vary across the vehicles, sometimes with no immediately visible logic behind them. The hourly rates are typically to high to justify, and the early all-day rentals have never appealed to our finances, either. Buying an all-day bus pass just to be able to pick up and deliver the car can feel redundant at times.

We pretty much have used the service for the all-night rentals that begin later in the evening. We can pick the vehicle up all-night until around 8am the next day for about $30-$40. That's a value we're interested in.

$50 late fee for 5 minutes late, regardless of traffic. Customer service is hit and miss, but generally pretty abysmal. Student discount was a nice bonus, as is the included gasoline novelty.

It's nice knowing that we always have the option of having it there, but for practical use for our family it just doesn't work out.
