St. Irene is a wonderful Eastern Rite Catholic church! If you feel called to deep and profound worship, have a long attention span and are open to hearing some of the prayers repeated in Ukrainian, you will enjoy the sublime prayer opportunity here. The entire Liturgy is chanted accapella by the Priest and the people and can take time to learn, unless you read music, but you can use the green book to follow along. Every voice is necessary, regardless of skill level, so it's all voices on deck! We are blessed to have a husband and wife cantor team to lead us in song every week providing good cover for those of us with lower quality voices, slava Bohu! (praise God!). The Pastor, Father Frank Knusel, has a vast knowledge of many languages and can shed light on the roots and meanings of various words spoken in the Gospels. He is extremely accommodating, kind, humble and welcoming to all. The faithful are also warm and welcoming and frequently convene in the parish hall downstairs to eat, drink and socialize after the service. Children are very welcome at St. Irene and are in a frown-free zone, if they cry or wiggle during the Liturgy. They are also invited to play in the preschool downstairs while the parents socialize, as long as their parents help to put the toys back before they leave. If you are fortunate enough to attend the Divine Liturgy on a potluck occasion, you will be treated to some of the best Ukrainian food in the world, not joking! St. Irene is truly a church which places the Holy Eucharist front and center as the Source and Summit of our lives and if you attend, you will be blessed by our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ!
