I've seen Dr. Gebhardt for years. Both she and her 'Girl Friday' Autumn are fabulous to work with. I take both my children to her and she was very helpful when one wanted to explore contact lenses. She went through the pros and cons and let her test putting them in. We ended up sticking with glasses for the time being, but feel like we had every opportunity to the best options for us.

Dr. Gerhard doe a fantastic job in a comfortable environment. Hands down the best bet for SE Portland.

We will not be scheduling another appointment here. My 7 year old was seen here yesterday for a routine eye exam, she is afraid of things coming close to her eyes. When it came time for the glaucoma test (the little air puff) my daughter said she didn't want to do it. She was scared. Dr. Gebhardt got frustrated and moved onto the eye drops for dilation. My daughter was terrified and started crying and covering her face saying "no no no!!!". Gebhardt then, without consent grabbed my child and said "I let the last test slide, but I won't let this one." and began forcing her head down and grabbing her hands from her face.

My daughter could not sleep lastnight, saying every time she blinked or closed her eyes she saw it all happening again.

I understand that dilation is necessary for an eye exam, eye health is important. We tried to convince my child to cooperate but Gebhardt was far too forceful, did not explain the situation to my child and treated her like a dog. If Gebhardt had taken the time to explain the situation to my child, it may have gone over more smoothly, or not, but this was not a life or death situation that warranted such force.

I don't know if she simply had a bad day, or doesn't like children/lacks the capacity to work with them. But what happened was inexcusable.

My child will not be returning here. When her glasses are ready I will pick them up and have them fitted to her face elsewhere.

This was a fantastic experience. I was tired of going to folks who were just a few years out of college or the new guy / gal in bigger practice. Dr. Gebhardt has been doing this for over 20 years and so I made the drive from SW Portland over to see her.

The drive was well worth the visit. Her staff is friendly as also very experienced as they have been together as a team for a very long time. Dr. Gebhardt really knows here stuff as I have had surgery on my eyes over 30 years ago and she explained my options for new corrective surgery if I want to go down that path.

But most important she really got my prescription for my eyes really dialed in. I feel like a new person. I can assure you she did things / test that others I have gone to, did not do. She knows here stuff.

So if you are looking for experience, a great and friendly atmosphere I strongly recommend Dr. Gebhardt.
