I would not recommend Legacy Emanuel Midwifery group for prenatal care. Their model of care is to have you see a different midwife at each appointment. The appointments are brief and you will be asked your medical history at every single appointment with the nurse. This will make you feel as though you are a broken record and that no one communicates with one another. The midwife will then come in and quickly introduce herself and you will forget her name and face before your 15 minute appointment is over. All of the midwives I have met were very impersonal. Their philosophy is that you get to meet every midwife before birth so no strangers are in your room when you deliver. As someone who has had two births can tell you, you will not care who delivers you in the throes of labor. You will also not remember any of the midwives from your 15 minute long appointments, so essentially a stranger will deliver you regardless. You have the option to also attend group meetings with other pregnant moms. If you work full time and/or have other children, you will find this ridiculous as they always seem to fall in the middle of the day and are therefore inconvenient to attend. I have given birth twice at Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside and my experience was 110% better than the "care" I have received at Legacy. At Kaiser, I saw the same midwife at every appointment. She remembered my name, what was going on in my life, didn't ask me the same 6 questions every appointment. We built a relationship and as a patient, I felt cared for and nurtured- all things a pregnant mom should feel. She did not deliver me, but like I said, during labor that becomes irrelevant. Legacy could improve their care if they allowed moms to have the option of having appointments with the same care provider and building a relationship rather than going on a midwife speed date every couple of weeks. If you prefer personalized and competent care, stay away from Legacy.
