My wife and I had an appointment with Melissa Jacobson (Diabetes Educator and Dietician) at Legacy Weight & Diabetes Institute on 01-Nov-2017 to discuss about my wife's Gestational Diabetes. Her OB&Gyn referred us to this place after my wife's glucose test results came high for blood sugar levels. Melissa Jacobson suggested my wife to measure her blood sugar levels 4 times daily using a meter. She gave us the OneTouch Verio meter and demonstrated how to use it. We asked her how often can we use each lancet (needle), to which she responded by saying that each lancet (needle) can be used multiple times to poke the fingers for collecting blood. She suggested that we change the lancet (needle) twice a week. Accordingly, my wife has been using the meter for the last 6 days and has changed the lancet twice. However, since yesterday she is experiencing swelling and pain on her fingertips, in the places where she poked using the meter. At that point we looked up and found that the lancets are for ONE TIME USE only, and should not be re-used. For a diabetic educator with 20 yrs of experience, we expect that he/she knows this basic fact about lancets. This clearly demonstrates the competency of this place. I can't imagine how they could confidently misguide a diabetic woman who is going to deliver a baby in the next 3 months! Never going to this place again!!!
