My absolute favorite bar in Portland. Selection, service, and atmosphere are all done so well. The library is a must visit for any whiskey fan. Their bartenders are very knowledgeable and are very friendly to new comers and long time drinkers a like. I would subtract a star for the wait, but to be honest that is just another thoughtful thing they do, that is to say they prefer to keep the establishment from getting overly crowded so patrons can sip comfortably. A very well thought out concept executed perfectly.

If you like dark liquor GO! Wonderful lounge in Portland. There is a long wait as it is a popular destination. Worth the wait but get there early in the night to put your name on the list. They have an early last call at 1230a. And this place is so great none of those detract from the experience. It is truly setup like a library with community tables and soft seating and couches. And then there are the shelves that line the wall. Every brand is well represented including a lot of rare vintages. The menu book is at lead 30 pages dense single spaced of vintages grouped by type. This is a quintessential part of any visit to Portland.

The tall ceilings, low lighting and intimate setting lend this place an atmosphere of a private men's clubs, but it's cozy vibe welcomes an eclectic mix of patrons. It appears as though reservation are helpful for upstairs dining. We sat downstairs in the open seating bar ."The Green Room". You have the choice of gathering at the long communal table or else at a table for two lining the walls. They have a menu of interesting and flavorful cocktails using a variety of liquors as well as a list of spirits if you prefer. We did not eat here but there were bar snacks.

It’s cool that they have like over hundreds of whiskey and that it’s very exclusive. With that being said, we waited 2 hours to get in... yes 2 hours, but they have a peasant area to have drinks before going up. When we got in, it’s literally like a library. They make you wait because there were a lot of empty seats on a Saturday night. A LOT. I think they do it to make it appear like they are super busy. Or maybe just always have empty seats in case their members come by. Drinks were good, I loved my old fashioned. But whatever you do don’t get the home made meat board. It was disgusting... definitely weird. They had like pig brains/guts and other unappetizing meats. I seriously thought it was a normal charcuterie board, like wild boar, salami, etc...

For my first experience in here, it wasn't bad at all, but I wouldn't say exceptional. I was impressed with the process and knowledge of the bartender and his recommendation was spot on and well worth the price. The atmosphere was as I had expected it to be and the seemingly "exclusive" vibe was actually pretty cool. My reason for not giving them a 5 is two fold, I didn't try the food (we had just finished dinner) and the bartender took special offense to someone joining our party as though we were putting him out and we blew apart his whole game plan. Additionally, it took a lot longer than expected to get our +1 a drink and the fact that he walked up to the bar to get a different drink seemed to have made things much worse, attitude wise. We did have a great time otherwise and we will return, perhaps for dinner in the future.
