Key structure here to a true recovery. Within a week of physical therapy here I noticed long saught after legitimate improvement. I have been to three other physical therapists before this and one of those three was good but not nearly as good as the help received from Mr. Glasser at Optimal Results. All of the therapists here seem awesome and the front desk staff ois knowledgeable and super friendly. I would refer anyone here, my life has greatly improved as of 2 months attending sessions and home practice. They have state of the art equipment and the atmosphere here is amazingly positive and easy going. This is the best place to fine tune any tricky recovery issues and regain your life! Thank you Kieth and Ana! And Frizzbee!

I was struck by a car in September while running in NE Portland and suffered multiple fractures to my pelvis, ankle, humerus, ribs and frontal bone. . While speaking with my orthopedic team in the hospital following surgery, I was told I would likely be looking at a six months to a year before I would resume running again, and as most runners can imagine, this was pretty difficult news to hear. As a passionate runner, the overarching goal for my rehab was to return to doing what I love without pain as well as participate again in this year’s Hood to Coast relay 11 months post-accident.

I began my rehab with Dr. Golden in January following three months spent non-weightbearing and restricted to a wheelchair. Upon beginning my rehab with Dr. Golden I had a significant deficit to the range of motion of my right arm, muscle atrophy to my legs and right arm, a loss of core strength and dealt with ankle, pelvis and shoulder pain on a daily basis. Dr. Golden’s approach to my rehabilitation was holistic, educational and empowering as I gained back my strength and ability to function self-sufficiently. Throughout my rehab, there are three things that stood out to me the most –

From the moment I walked into the clinic, I was treated as an athlete. The severity of my injuries resulted in a lot of people in my life seeing me as fragile and broken - including myself. From the day of my initial visit, I cannot recall a single time that Dr. Golden asked me what I could not do. Rather, we focused on evaluating where I was physically thus far in my recovery and where it was that I wanted to be. I cannot overstate how empowering this was and the impact that mentality had in reminding me that these injuries and the pain was not forever.

Dr. Golden also did an incredible job educating me on the process of tissue and muscle repair, strengthening and understanding how pain should be managed in the recovery process. Each of the exercises added to my home program were designed to be progressive and built upon as my overall strength and stamina improved. Contrary to my expectations for lower and upper extremity injuries to be treated independently of each other, my therapy sessions and home exercises addressed my rehab holistically and helped me understand how treating my ankle, rebuilding leg strength, and focusing on core would aid in my shoulder recovery and vice versa. I feel more knowledgeable as an athlete having worked with Dr. Golden and will continue the program we’ve developed over the course of the last eight months given the exercises are truly best strengthening practices for any active person, regardless of whether or not you’re treating an injury.

Finally, I was incredibly impressed with the resources that Optimal Results had available in their clinic. Being able to benefit from Blood Flow Restrictive Therapy and returning to running four months post-surgery using their Anti-Gravity Treadmill undoubtedly played a huge role in expediting the time it took for me to build back the muscle mass I had lost over the course of the accident. I am also eternally thankful to Anna and Sanatan for relentlessly advocating on my behalf for continued treatment when the insurance companies began to push back on authorizing continued PT visits when both I, my Orthopedic team and Dr. Golden believed there was progress to be gained by continuing treatment. I truly can’t say enough about how grateful I am for their advocacy.

I knew going into this year that the recovery would be difficult. But I also believed it was possible and I was surrounded by people who believed the same and knew how to get me to where I wanted to be. On August 25th I finished my second Hood to Coast relay with no pelvic or shoulder pain and at a pace that rivaled my speed at last year’s HTC. Having been told 11 months ago that it would be a year until I would run again, I have nothing but immeasurable gratitude for the people who helped me defy these odds. I am both happier and stronger than I could have imagined thanks to this team.

I injured my back during a crossfit workout 9 months ago. I saw a doctor, got X-Rays and got the typical muscle relaxers and pain meds. No matter how much I stretched, rolled out, or cut back on my workout routine I could not get the injury to go away. I suffered through 6 months of pain, particularly in the mornings when it was difficult for me to do small tasks like wash my feet in the shower, towel off or put on my socks. I lost many hours of sleep. I bought a sit-stand desk. I contemplated buying a new bed, even though mine was only a year old. Then I finally took my Crossfit coaches' advice and scheduled an appointment with Sanatan Golden. He diagnosed my issues in the first appointment: sprained back, poor hip mobility and damage from previously sprained ankles. Sanatan gave me a routine of "exercises" to perform 2-4 times / day, and emphasized that it was important to perform them prior to going to bed for the night. I did the routine as many times as I could throughout the day, and immediately began to make improvements. On subsequent visits, Sanatan introduced new, more challenging movements to the routine, and I continued to steadily improve. After 4 or 5 visits over two months, I am nearly back to normal. My sleep has improved (improving my mood, attitude and relationships), and I am back to working out. I could not recommend Sanatan any higher.

I started seeing Dr. Sanatan Golden a few months ago for scoliosis and the pain/discomfort associated with having an “S” shaped spine. I’ve seen a handful of different physical therapists over the years, and have always been frustrated by the advice to simply maintain a strong core as well as the lack of progress that came from the minor daily movements they prescribed. As someone who runs regularly and enjoys taking circuit training classes and lifting weights, I’d always had a hard time sticking to a physical therapy regimen that asked me to stop all other forms of exercise other than the physical therapy exercises. I had given up on physical therapy, until Sanatan was recommended to me by a friend. His approach from the get-go, was for me to keep running, lifting, etc., by building correct patterns of movement, increasing my mobility and stability, strengthening and activating weaker muscles, and becoming more aware of how I was moving my body so as to avoid falling back into old patterns of movement that increased my scoliosis symptoms.

You can tell the breadth of knowledge Sanatan brings to his work, and I was always impressed by how diligently he made sure I was doing the correct movement, and the variety of progressions he provided. I worked with Sanatan about every 2 weeks for about 4 months, and was just blown away by the progress that came from regular appointments and consistent daily exercises. The daily workouts he gave me were always challenging enough to stay motivated, and early on into working with him I could tell a difference in how I was moving and which muscles were activating during exercises. Before working with Sanatan I avoided all heavy lifting because it always left my back in pain, and I just assumed it was something I wouldn’t be able to do with scoliosis. Much like I assumed I would always wake up from a nights sleep with some sort of pain and stiffness. Just a couple months of consistent physical therapy later, I was thrilled to do some heavier barbell and kettlebell lifting work recently without any of the discomfort and pain that I would have experienced prior to starting physical therapy. I’m thrilled that I didn’t give up on physical therapy all together. Huge shout out to the whole team at Optimal Results PT for the positivity, warmth, and stellar handling of insurances!
