The Horse Brass pub has the best on tap micro beer selection in Portland. Their halibut fish and chips are to die for and their bread pudding is grand. It feels like you just walked into a pub in England. It's a great place to go with a group of friends. Their other food is excellent too. A true scotch egg, cheese plates, bangers and mash, or a good pub burger, you can't go wrong. The scotch selection is excellent too.

Nice servers and friendly enough bartenders. Solid English pub food, tasty scotch eggs and fish and chips. Spacious dining area. Darts darts darts! Great neighborhood bar.

Horsebrass was one of the first bars I went to when I moved to Portland over 4 years ago. I've been dozens of times since, and I don't even live in the area any more.
Their beer selection is AMAZING. They have something for everyone, including ciders and mixed drinks. The food is mostly traditional English style pub fare, but they've been branching out into other styles recently for their specials.
Some of my favorite memories have been at this bar because the atmosphere is so warm and inviting. Its definitely a place you'd want to spend the whole evening at with a group of friends playing darts and drinking a few beers.

The horse brass pub has become my go to place for meeting up with friends whenever I am back in Portland. Since I first visited in 2008, I have very much enjoyed this classic establishment. They have a fantastic beer and scotch selection and a wonderful ambience. The food is pretty good as well. The only thing that keeps this review four another five is that the service is inconsistent. The last time we were there our waitress was perfect. But the few times before that our waitress was downright rude. So we've had it both ways here.
Regardless I would make A visit to the horse brass pub a priority when visiting Portland. While you're there, visit Mike's movie madness that is just across the street. Not only is it one of the rare surviving video stores, but it has become a museum of Hollywood props. You're also walking distance from Portland's famous Hawthorne district that is full of restaurants and shopping.
