A lower canine tooth that had been slightly loose for about five years had within the last three weeks started to hurt needed to be checked for decay and stability before replacing a worn lower partial. I made an appointment with Dr. Elmer Villalon.
Maybe it was my kinky, black hair (I am Caucasian), maybe it was the cotton sweats I had on, or maybe it was having a seventy-year-old sitting in his dental chair or, maybe, it was…who knows? All I know for sure is the second he walked in the examination room Dr. Villalon was arrogant, as if I had no right to be his patient.
After examining the x-ray, he said I needed a root canal only! I questioned him: I could tell the tooth needed to be pulled! He then accused me of wanting to use “the missing tooth clause”, which according to Delta Dental would reduce the cost of the partial by about half! I mentioned I didn’t even know about the “missing tooth clause” until his receptionist, Margie, mentioned it. He became really arrogant as if again I had no right to question him. Looking me in the eyes, he straightforwardly said I needed to get a second opinion, nuance for I am not going to help you or get out of my office!
The next day, I called. Margie answered the phone. Dr. Villalon’s attitude permeated her greeting. She accused me of being this-that-or-the other. I interrupted her tirade with “Oh, those words were nasty.” She continued spouting more accusation. I again mentioned that her conversation was not an example of “good customer service”. And if Villalon had taken two seconds to examine the gum line, he would have notice with his own eyes visible decay and also a cavity in the adjacent tooth—no x-ray needed.
Overall the experience with Dr. Villalon and Margie was unprofessional, degrading and totally, totally unnecessary: no patient should ever be treated so badly!
By the way, the second dentist said “the root resorption(?)” of the questioned tooth was sooo-sooo bad that the tooth could not be saved. He also noticed on his visual exam the decay along the gum line and in the adjacent tooth. I had not mentioned either!

I was going to get my tmj fixed and he did not want to hear anything I had to say about the problem. As I was getting fitted for an appliance he would force the appliance into my mouth which caused one of my teeth to be in a lot of pain. As he was FORCING the appliance into my mouth I could fill one of my teeth wanting to break. When it got to that point I told him it was not going to fit. He told me and I quote "well it will just have to be forced in and you will have to live with the pain". At that point I told him that I would need another option to fix my tmj. He told me that I will have to find another Dr that would accept me. So I left his office and will never return again. Another thing was he would not wear a face mask. And it was gross. He is the worst Dr a person could ever go to.

I love Dr. V, I've gone to him for a long time and can't imagine going to another dentist. I had really severe TMJ and headache issues alongside my normal dental problems. He solved them all. Thank God for dentists like Dr. Villalon.

My experience was Great! Dr Villalon is very knowledgeable and professional. He goes above and beyond the call of duty. I have not had any TMJ issues, but I learned alot from his thorough exams, which I have not had other dentists take the time to do.

I had the same issues with this dentist a little over a year ago. I was getting a wisdom tooth removed and received the same treatment. I was given some numbing shots, but was still feeling a lot of pain and since it was the first time I had ever had a tooth removed I started to get anxious. (Especially after he started getting upset with me on how it was taking a while to get the tooth out) He was completely rude and informed me that if I didn't calm myself down that he wouldn't finish pulling the tooth (my wisdom tooth was already half way out at this point) and that he didn't have time for all of this and then walked out and left me there in the chair with the assistant. I was in pain and made to feel like it was my fault and that I was inconveniencing him and his precious time. Lucky, the lady that was assiting him was able to help me calm down once he walk out of the room and apologized for the way he was treating me, but I will never go to him again.
