Terrible. Staff are rude and unattentive, particularily Larry. He approached me as I was unlocking the entrance door to the room. With his voice raised he said "visiting hours are over at 9 pm". He continued on a rant in front of other hotel guests, causing a commotion. Realizing no one was in the room, he walked away foolishly. Very unprofessional and humiliating, to say the least. As if that isnt bad enough, my mothers car was broken into in the hotels parking lot. We called local police to file a report. The officers told us this hotel has a long history of vehicle break ins. After a little research, we discovered 7 vehicle break ins were reported in less than 7 months. The hotel is not responsible for any of it. I suggest you check your insurance policies and deductibles if you plan to stay here. Rear window replacements cost about $500. According to the reports, all cars had the rear window smashed with a large rock. You would think the hotel owners would at the very least remove these large rocks but they have not. In fact, they haven't done anything other than deny the problem. There have been 2 homocides reported at the hotel across the street from the Best Western so far this year. Hope you dont interrupt a break-in in progress (if you do, you might be no.3). The staff told us they do not have a parking lot attendants nor any security officers. I guess the parking permit issued at check in is really a disclaimer. This might explain why the staff, knowing the car had been broken into, simply ignored it the rest of the night, didnt bother to alert us nor call the police. My mothers plans for the entire day were ruined. Thanks for loaning us the broom to sweep up our own chards of glass. Bad hotel in a bad neighborhood with high crime and prostitution. This is fact, not a simple opinion.

Room- clean, nice, lots of space, comfortable bed. Breakfast are good. Location is ok. I like that there's alot of food options within walking distance and that is right next to the freeway. Overall service was a 3* out of 5 because the night receptionist was rude and made me feel discriminated. My friend that work for Best Western booked me the room at friends and family rate. However when I got there Larry (the receptionist) asked if I work for best Western. I told him no but my friend that book the room for me does. He than asked about her information and where she work. I called my friend and told her what happened she told me she submitted in the paper work with my name on there to the hotel. Larry than asked if he could talk to her. I told him, she doesn't speak English well. He rolled his eyes and told me she could get fire for this. At that moment I feel Larry was bring rude and racist. I feel like he was thearting to get my friend fire. He later did offered to change our rate to the friends and family. So we accepted that and stay at the hotel. However I feel Larry's behavioral toward this whole situation was wrong and rude. He could of simply told me my friend booked the wrong rate and show me the friends and family rate. Instead of asking to talk to my friend on my phone, than rolled his eyes because she only speaks a little English and told me she could fire for doing this. I will never stay at this Best Western Salinas ever again.

Sweet hotel personnel, clean rooms, free breakfast. Above average hospitality, and very clean, but hotel itself was basic. The staff make the hotel the best out can be :)

I stay at lots of Best Westerns all over North America. This is a pretty property in a bit of a sketchy area. The breakfast attendant is wonderful and does a great job. Maybe she should be put in charge of training the front desk. "Lazy Larry" was the single worst front desk person I have had the displeasure of meeting. The type of person who gives off the vibe that the guest is there to serve him and not the other way around. The only reason I am giving this a two star is because of the breakfast attendant.

Rooms were clean and quiet, they offer complementary Continental breakfast (mini pancakes do taste better than normal ones). Initially put off about reviews about cars being broken into but had no issues with that. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE EVERYTHING OUT OF YOUR CAR. I didn't grow up in a nice area, everyone around knew to not leave ANYTHING in the car including loose change, GPS/phone stands and chargers, packages and bags that look like they may contain stuff, etc. Little things some people wouldn't even think about covering/hiding. It doesn't matter if you're leaving your car for 10 minutes or overnight. Cover and hide your belongings, park it in a highly visible area. It sucks for the people who had to go through that ordeal, take it as a warning that even if the outside looks nice and clean (as this place does) that crime is still a very real possibility.
