I had a very sick cat. It took Dr. Ponder 4 days to realize, it was medically beyond his skills. Dr. Ponder did not listen to my medical advice (saying my cat needed a feeding tube). I took my cat to the Pet Specialist on highway 68. 1st thing they said was, he needed a feeding tube.
Dr.'s staff kept me waiting 20 minutes, extra, so they could figure out the bill. Same services as day before and day before that. They didn't want to listen to me. 20 minutes later, same charge as day before.
Staff person ask me to come in and do a procedure on my cat (after he had eaten), to make sure I knew how. I came in at scheduled time and my cat was fed an hour earlier and she knew nothing about my coming in. No communication/coordination between staff.
DR. PONDER TOOK MY MONEY (OVER THOUSAND $) AND ALMOST KILLED MY CAT BECAUSE HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING!
OK for shots and minor thing.
SERIOUS MEDICAL ISSUES GO ELSEWHERE!
Dr. Ponder's wife has some issues, didn't know what happened, was not present, but wanted to defend incompetent staff.

I have taken my moms senior dog to this hospital a few times. The last 2 times were after 11pm. I highly recommend this veterinarian. He is great with animals and he has a great sense of humor as well. The consultation fee after regular business hours is about $135. I would have given a 5 star rating if not for what happened the last time i took my moms dog in. I arrived around 11 pm . There were 2 ladies in the waiting area. My moms dog was ill and he began whining loudly while in the carrier. He is a drama queen and sounded like he was dying. I filled out the paperwork and told the receptionist i had to call my mother to get her credit card info (i accidentally forgot and left it on her dinner table) . We had been there before so i didnt think there would be a problem doing this. The receptionist told me they could not do that and the dog would not be seen without payment first. I told her i did not have cash on me but I had a check i could give her. Its almost 11:30 pm, they close at midnight and my mother lives a half hour drive from the vet clinic. All i had to do was call her to get the info and they could charge it by phone. They did this last time i explained to her. She said they no longer did that and if i couldnt pay then i had to take him elsewhere. The dog is yelping loudly at this point and the 2 ladies in the waiting area have expressed concern for him. Upset, I placed him back in the carrier and walked us back to my truck. Not one to give up easily, i decided to try transferring funds. 10 minutes later i am knocking on the front door. The 2 ladies inside tried to unlock the door to let me in because even after i rang the bell for assistance twice, no one came to the door. The 2 ladies then went looking for someone as my moms dog whined more and more. Finally the receptionist came out and unlocked the door to let us back in. I gave her my card and he was taken in. $350 and some meds we went home. I realize this is a business like any other. I couldnt believe the receptionist would not simply charge the card by phone or take a check and suggested we go elsewhere. If not for the fact the dog is elderly and clearly in lots of discomfort, I would have gladly driven to the pet hospital in Monterey considering how upsetting that was. For this reason, i rated this hospital only 3 stars.

Was referred here from my vet in Prunedale since their x-machine was down, and my dog was in distress. I went there immediately, and had a long wait since I didn't have an appointment. Costs were discussed, and I paid my deposit. They x-rayed my dog, and the prognosis was not good. After consulting with the doctor, I elected to humanely euthanize my pet. The staff was totally professional and supportive EXCEPT the chunky white girl with glasses. I was watching my dog suffer and the doctor preparing to end his life and she's in my ear about an additional $42 charge for the procedure. In the room, with everything else going on. Like I was going to cut out on them after watching my dog die. I had to walk out past the front desk to leave, so it wasn't like she couldn't have brought it up after things were less tense. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL!. HAVE SOME DECENCY. Aside from that, everyone else was great. The doctor explained what had happened, and was truly apologetic. I won't ever go back there though if she's still working there.
Update 2/6/17
I got a call from Dr Ponder the following day expressing his apologies about the staff member in question and made sure that I understood he took full responsibility for her actions. To me this demonstrates great character and professional ethics. I have to give him a whole new outlook, and have upgraded his business to five stars. Thanks Dr. Ponder.

The staff are great! After my baby(Dog) passed away I took him there at almost 11pm and the 2 staff were really sweet! 2 days later or so I received a card from there saying sorry for your loss. That meant so much to me!!! Thank You for being there for everyone :)👑💯🐶🐾🐱
