Last week I rented a Toyota car from United Auto Rental. It was the first time I went to San Diego with the wife and kids. When I got to San Diego airport , I was really confused. I called UAR and they helped me figure out what to do, he was really friendly and helped me figure out where to do and what to do. Seems as though The airport has shuttles to a rental hub... When I got to the hub I called them again , they sent a car over (The car I was renting) and the driver loaded the luggage, then we drove to the UAR building. We went though the paperwork, and surprisingly he never asked about extra coverage or pushed for loss of use coverage (none of it I wanted anyways, but was expecting a push for extra coverage or gas).
The car that he picked us up at was a little high mileage but ran fine and worked great. 71000 when we got it , we put 1200 on it. I mentioned when we had a flight leaving at 10:30am that we would have problems getting to airport since they didn't open until 9 am on Saturday ( when we flight out ). We were back at rental at 8:15am on Saturday and to our surprise the driver showed up for work 30 minutes early and said he can drive us there if we are OK with it. ( He didn't know the paperwork part but took picture of the mileage and dash.) Everything worked out great.

After talking to the people at UAR, they mentioned that any company that goes to the rental hub (San Diego Airport Rental Hub) has to pay an extra 20% for every vehicle rental. So that cost goes to consumer.
This business is not very large but would recommend for anyone visiting San Diego.

Reasonable prices, friendly no-pressure, swift service. Car was in decent condition.

This car rental experience was awesome. The price was at least half what we would pay and the service was way better. We were traveling with 2 small children in car seats and all the luggage that entails. We were picked up at the airport in the same car we were renting so we only had to load up once. We were also dropped off at the airport at the terminal which again was so helpful when we had our kids and all our stuff. The car was clean and exactly as described. We had a Jetta and were able to take 2 carseats, 3 suitcases, a pack n play, and 2 backpacks. For us, this pick up and drop off service was MUCH easier than loading everything up on the rental shuttle.

I would give this place zero stars if I could! We ran into some trouble with the insurance and were only able to sort it out the next day. Despite us having reserved the car for the whole week we were told that the cars availability the next day would not be guaranteed. The guy at the counter was extremely impatient and not at all accommodating or understanding. Would never recommend this place to anyone!
