Tahnks for having us for dinner. We decided to visit the restaurant due to not having Eritrean food in Chicago. Overall we had enjoyed unusual taste and flavors. Especially was a treat videos of Eritrean pop singers on TV. Pla e needs lots of care and love to make it happen on a different level, but we were happy to visit and enjoy hosts explanation about his native country! You did a great job!

What a great spot! If you're looking for something new, come here! Friendly, family run business. Oh and amazing food!

The food here was amazing. Unfortunately, the service was not. We were the only customers in the restaurant at noon on a Sunday. There was a guy bashing in a car and tossing items at it in the parking lot in the rear of the restaurant. I immediately asked for the check because I didn't feel safe. Also, the car he was bashing in was parked right next to mine. The staff didn't stop the guy. Apparently, he knew the staff somehow. I just kept asking for the check, but the server kept insisting that we stay. I kept demanding a check be brought. She finally brought it.
Strange place, and not in the best of locations, but the food was excellent!

Love Asmara restaurant! Authentic african cuisine served in the traditional style. In other words, you eat with your hands using special bread (Injera) that they make, instead of a fork. Amazing flavors and delicious food! I usually order one of the combination platters to sample a variety of dishes. They have both vegetarian and meat options including beef and chicken. The owners are very friendly but english is clearly not their first language so it can be a bit difficult communicating but well worth it! Also, they don't have an ice machine so they prefer not to serve tap water, instead they generally serve cold bottled waters which do cost a dollar each. So you may want to order a different beverage. They have a variety of sodas and other beverage options.

Asmara is an amazing restaurant! It is very authentic East African cuisine. Essentially that means a large pancake like bread called injera that has various vegetables and meats on top of it. Instead of using a fork like Americans do, you tear off pieces of the bread and pick up the food and eat with your fingers just like they do in Africa!
This is also a small mom-and-pop owned restaurant and the owners are very nice, however English is clearly not their first language and they can be somewhat shy and guarded until they get to know you. Save yourself thousands of dollars on airfare and go to the San Diego Zoo or safari park to see wild animals and then go to Asmara to enjoy the unique exotic Cuisine of Africa! Oh, they are vegetarian-friendly and also serve meat and chicken dishes.
