The place is clearly resting on its Top Gun fame. The BBQ was average and the sides were pretty mediocre. As stated in the other reviews, the service could definitely improve.

This place is a joke. It's literally riding on the fact that Top Gun filmed here. There are 4 pictures dedicated to KC and a ton to Tom Cruise. The service was horrible. Our server was rude and took forever to come to our table every time. She huffed and puffed every time we asked for things, but never was like is there anything else I can get you? And the food was the worst part. It was completely bland- and they had once sauce. They also randomly ran out of burnt ends which is fine if it wasn't literally called Kansas City BBQ. The mac and cheese tasted like it came out of a box. As someone who is from Kansas City, it is an insult to name the restaurant that. It doesn't compare to real KC BBQ.

Started off by having a beautiful hostess and server; they had very good manners and were polite. I had the HOMEMADE CHILI it was amazing. Wife had the combo brisket and spare ribs, they said it was amazing. 5 stars amazing food and service thank you.

This place is pretty foul. Even if the food had been great, which it was not, and the service had been good, which it was not, the bathrooms alone would earn this place a 1 star. My female work colleague tried to use the ladies room but it was backed up and not being attended to so she asked me to watch the men's room door for her (as there was no lock) so she could use it instead. She lasted about 2 seconds and came out gagging. Truly disgusting and I shudder to think what the kitchen looked like, my stomach was a wreck all night. They need to spend less time yammmering on about a scene from a 30 year old movie that was shot there and more time training staff and cleaning bathrooms.
I have to say, the servers were perfectly nice but just utterly disorganized. Our order was completely messed up.

Come for the Top Gun swag, but not the food. West Coast IPA was great, service was great, but the soggy corn on the cob and flat BBQ sauce left room for improvement. Macaroni and cheese side dish was better than the "all white chicken" sandwich platter I had (see BBQ sauce comment above). If your a fan of Top Gun, this place is heaven. Talk to some staff for a little history on the place and filming, you'll learn a thing or two.
