Horribly maintained compared with other city parks. Just compare Rolph to the park in the Marina.

Nice place place lot of open space. Very easy to see and find right off the freeway

Most people it seems lately are unaware there is more park * On the other side of Cesar Chavez St - there is a quaint little amphitheater/stage half ringed with a grassy area for views. Adjacent to the stage is the only skateboarding bowls, I have seen so far, which seems like a secret, or simply overlooked by the current generation of skateboarders.
Probably because it is such a pain to get here if you don't drive - as none of the Muni buses service the area. Which is a pity because the bowls are tagged with graffiti (normal) not cracked and smooth riding, like they built it right the first time for generation's to enjoy getting abrasions and minor bloody injuries - the badges of honour in skateboarding circles.
The skate park @ Van Ness and 13th sucks compared to this park. If more townies knew of this place there would be more contented exhausted skateboarders, with bloody bruises of their own making.
Which is ideal for beginners to come and practice, since there are hardly any hard core riders hogging it. The day I visited, there was only a single gray haired old timer skateboarding and a twenty something riding his bike in the bowls.
Nearby is a grassy expanse that seems best suited for doges to run amok in bliss. There are no other park equipment like a ball stop for baseball, or soccer net on this side of the park across C. Chavez.
However, there is a homeless presence in the interchange area ~ next to the park. The dept of recreation and parks have the access gates locked to keep out the drug addicts and bicycle hijackers from having easy access to the park, riffraff are welcome to use the park like normal sheeple, they just have to use the access points other folks use.

Love the new park with community garden. Wish there was a designated dog playground as well :)
