I have been going to American Medwell for over five years and am very pleased with the Nurses attention and each of the Doctors that have seen me. Anyone that I have ever met there have been very attentive and show care for any issues that I needed to go in for. There have been a few Doctors who were there for a short time, however they were really good at their profession and took care of me for my needs at the time of my visit. My Mother and her husband have been going to American Medwell for longer than I have and are also very pleased with them.

The two bad experiences that I have had were; once for a medication that had not been called in to my pharmacist and one time that I had called and cancelled an appointment but it had been reported as a 'missed' appointment. I called to discuss this but it still remains noted as a 'missed' appointment. For those two reasons I am giving the office a four star. I do plan on continuing to go to American Medwell in DeWitt for my general practitioner appointments.

If there was a 0 star rating that is what I would give. I was a dispatcher and would get called into work and told I had to come in or it was my job, I told the office this when I became a new patient. After what they consider too many cancellations, and no shows, even though I did call just that it was the same day, I was released as a patient.

I have never experienced such an unprofessional and disorganized practice in all of my life. When I was first accepted as a new patient I remember seeing the same physician on two separate occasions and each appointment thereafter was someone new. I say new as in the other doctors left the practice. They were there only a matter of months before moving on. That in itself speaks volumes.

Their bedside manner and concern seemed to dwindle over time with each new doctor or practitioner as well. This last appointment was again another new physician and by far the worst. He knew nothing about me or my history, nor did he care to take the time to ask questions to get a general understanding before deciding to change my care plan that I have been on for the past 5+ years. I was treated as a number, not an individual, and I felt as if he had something better to be doing with his time while on his power trip of being the new doctor in town. That was enough for me.

If you're looking for a new PCP I suggest you look elsewhere!

This review is for the American Medwell on 3709 Erie Blvd in Dewitt New York. These people actually cause harm. My wife is learning English and I came to help her talk with Doctor. Nurse Practitioner there the first few times, who spoke my wife’s native French, was thorough and great, sent wife out for stool and blood tests - when I came back, “Tina” told me that person was currently “no longer with them and not working anywhere else, either”. Unprofessional and malicious. When Doctor “Phyllis” came in, the Dr refused to read any previous notes, didn’t know anything about my wife’s history. When she met my wife, she asked why wife can’t “speak for herself” in spite of language barrier. Wife did her best, and when I had to sort it out for Dr Phyllis - she then picked up an attitude; as if Doctors don’t need correct patient information. Terrible personality. Second, wife was having gastrointestinal problems, Phyllis (with badgering) found previous tests, which said, “foreign patients require additional tests to rule out non-native bacteria, etc”. But Dr Phyllis said, “see, she is fine”. I said, “what about all the vomiting and diarrhea?” Dr Phyllis said she “doesn’t know". Well find out! That’s your job! I said, “what about this line that talks about non-natives?” She said, “oh yeah, I’ll send out for additional tests” (which she never did). Dangerous incompetence. I asked for referral to a Gastrointestinal specialist - she said she’ll look into it. After 2 months of badgering, phone calls not returned, confusion at the front desk, and etc … they called me back and said Dr Phyllis is not doing referrals or re-testing because it’s “not medically necessary”. So, they will neither test my wife properly, nor make any referrals to someone else who will, they have no idea what’s wrong with my wife, and will let your problems worsen for 2 MONTHS before saying so.

My new Doctor at different practice found wife has acid reflux and a small ulcer, and diagnosed food considerations and medication. Problem solved in one month. If that condition had been further ignored, this condition could have poisoned or caused permanent injury to my wife.

The people in reception are rude, impatient, interrupt, raise their voice, talk like you are stupid, don’t return calls, often don’t answer the phone, at least once set up my appointment on the wrong day, and pretty much don’t seem to understand that they are there to serve us.

By the way, I had to pay out of pocket for some of the tests done in this office, even though it was covered under my insurance, because American Medwell filled out the paperwork incorrectly multiple times.

The owner of American Medwell, Dr. Ifechukwude Ojugbeli, was recently put on three years of probation for unprofessional medical practices in the same building as the American Medwell on Erie Blvd. Look it up - “Visage Skin Care & Spa at 3709 Erie Boulevard East” on Google. The State Board for Medical Professional Conduct said, “Ojugbeli has the knowledge and skills to practice medicine safely, BUT HE HAS REPEATEDLY FAILED TO EXERCISE THE CARE THAT A REASONABLE, PRUDENT PHYSICIAN WOULD EXERCISE UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES”.

Yeah, I see what they mean. Apparently he doesn’t demand any better from his staff, either.

Just read the other reviews here! If there was a NEGATIVE 5 stars, they would get it.

A few months ago I showed up for an appointment and was turned away because no one on staff could administer pediatric shots to my children. My special needs son now needs to start his series over again putting even more stuff in his system than I am comfortable with. Today I showed up for my daughters shot for beginning of school and was told I should go to a clinic even though I repeatedly offered to pay the office visit and for the shot myself so I didn't have to do more scheduling, running around and waiting with 3 kids (2 of whom are special needs) They, once again, didn't want to give us our medical care. Looking for new providers with openings for special needs children now.
