Above average. If you take a look inside the restaurant most of the patrons are Chinese that tell you that this is the place to eat Chinese in Tallahassee

China D is amongst the best Chinese restaurants in town if not the best. My first rule with any Chinese restaurant is avoid places with buffets. Check. No buffet here.
They have many of the usual sort of dishes that you might expect at any Chinese restaurant. Like orange chicken or lo mein. The difference is the orange chicken is amazing. Crispy and fried with real orange peels. The lo mein has all the usual things in it but also includes garlic and ginger which really makes this dish pop.
There are also many unusual entree items that you seldom or never see elsewhere. Some of my favorites include the double cooked pork, cuttlefish hot plate and black bean ribs. Cuttlefish? Who serves that?
I am likewise fond of their egg drop soup which I think may be the best I've ever had. They have some lamb specials which I intend to try sometime as well.
I recommend eating here and not getting it to go in particular if the dish is intended to be crispy (streaming in the carry out box is an issue).
The staff are friendly and they will get to know you even if you don't go there often. Don't let the location near the Greyhound bus station scare you off. The food is excellent and they clearly take a lot of pride in what they serve.

The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because its a nice place with nice people. The food on the other hand... Gross! I always give a place two or three times before i decide and this place has had my business three separate times. Nope never again.

So I went with my Chinese friends and we ate family style. It was pretty good. There was a fish soup and a sour bean soup that were pretty good. It was way different from the American-Chinese food that you get everywhere (you know the kind you get at buffets). There is such a huge variety of Chinese food in China. I gathered from my friends that this place was closer to authentic.
