Such a beautiful, peaceful place. Photos of the interior don't do it justice. I just love the lush, tropical scent of all those plants inside a building. I also liked the catwalk in the main room; it gives a different perspective on all the plants. The orchid room was small but had some beautiful specimens I'd never seen before. The cactus and fern rooms were interesting as well. I could have easily spent more time here than I did. I just wish it stayed open later.

I'm not a plant lover so I'll put that out there from the jump. This is a nice destination for a quick visit. The plant life is pretty, but they're really crammed in there. The facility isn't that big so it makes for getting crowded easily too. The plant life is sectioned off by region which I think is cool. One plus is that they have a planting/digging area for the kids. Very nice as it is hard to get the kids to enjoy a walk through the building and enjoy plant life. Not bad. Definitely go if you have never been, but I will not be the first in line to go back.

It was almost unable to ask for more from this beautiful and fantastic botanical garden, especially when considering the free entrance. It is another must-go spot in D.C. that no one could resist. There were so many kinds of plants from all over the world in various sections, from Desert, Tropical, to Rare & Endanger, to name a few. I even found a cocoa tree or two. Also, it has a model version of the National Mall in it. Small but detailed. This place is also an excellent educative spot that children could study about biology and natural environment. Because of free entrance for everyone, it was pretty crowded all the time. It is entirely worth a visit in few hours to discover and learn for.

This is amazing! I wish I hadn't saved this for our last full day in DC and had spent more time here! It's really close to the Capital so it has great views and photo opportunities. The variety of plants inside are wonderful! It's organized by plant types: medicinal plants, Rare & endangered, Hawaiian, just to name a few! It has a nice play area for kids where they can dig, plant seedlings and water them and even do a little climbing! My toddler spent most of the time there instead of looking at the plants. They also have nice free pocket size activity/ educational books intended for older children.

The botanical garden has a relatively unassuming structure, when compared with the architecture of the buildings you find along the Mall. But it's only when you go in that you realize its scale. It contains flora from pretty much every climatic conditions present on earth. That itself speaks volumes about the amount of care taken by the staff to maintain different flora in different conditions.
I have been here several times and on one of the occasions, the Botanical Garden had small replicas of the famous buildings in DC made with wooden sticks, which were really beautiful. There are many benches to rest or sit and take pictures, etc.
It is right next to the Capitol. So I would suggest that you visit the garden right after your Capitol tour and then proceed to other sites on the Mall.
