Yes, the previous reviews are right--do not go here if you are in a hurry. Mr. Lee is usually the only person working--sometimes one other person. I do not find the place to be "disgusting" though. Sure, it's not Sumo, but it's not crawling with roaches.
Mr. Lee works VERY hard and VERY long hours to try to make a decent living.
His food is AMAZING. I've been to several Habachi restaurants in Wichita, and my husband and I are loyal Kyoto patrons. This place has several "regulars" just like us.
I don't know why people complain about the portion sizes or the prices. The prices are EXACTLY what you would find at other Habachi resturants in Wichita and I have NEVER left feeling hungry. We actually have food to take home with us.
You MUST get the fried rice. Wow, that is so good! They also have THE best Terrayki sauce for steak and chicken.
Contrary to the complaint about the Miso soup, I find it to be very good and better than I can get elsewhere in town.
To the person that recommended Kobe--I actually think that's the worst Habachi place in town. The food was nasty.
Yes, Sumo's is very good--but they have high prices and you have to pay for refills on sodas. Really, places in Wichita charge for soda refills?!
If you're looking for a great dinner, go to Kyoto. If you want the show and want to get in and out, then yes, you should probably go somewhere else. For my husband and I, we would prefer to not have the show with the stupid jokes that you hear over and over again.
Keep up the good/hard work, Mr. Lee!!

I was disappointed by the salads and appetizers and the atmosphere was nothing special. I was appalled, however, when the chef spilled my rice all over the table and then scraped it up with a spatula, tossed it in my cup, and served it to me! I kept thinking he'd get me a replacement, but he never did. I do not see myself returning to this so-called "hidden gem".

Service was very slow. Drinks were left empty.
Miso soup tasted like cheap instant soup. Salad was plain iceberg with a poor quality dressing. Dinner itself was fine. Not great, not terrible.
We were amazed to find we had been charged $4 for each serving of rice. I have never been charged for rice at any Japanese steak house. If the dinners themselves were cheap, a la carte, I would understand. But my steak dinner - the cheapest steak option - was $16. The dinner my brother ordered of chicken, steak and shrimp for one was $38!
There are too many good restaurants in Wichita to have to eat here.
