I was having issues about a year ago. I was very tired, weak and started chewing ice out of no where. My mom recommended I see Dr Mcnulty and I am so thankful I listened to her. Come to find out I was having an issue with low iron. He said I needed a iron infusion and they scheduled for me receive 2 bags of straight iron. He said it would give me a lot more iron than a regular blood transfusion. I was worried that I was going to have to go to the hospital, but they are set up to do it right in there office! I had to come back and get 2, at 2 separate sittings a week apart. The nurses in the fusion room were the best I've ever been around. Awesome people in this office! I hope you never need them, but of you do, this is the place!

the nurses in the chemo dept are amazing. they are all wonderful, some of the best ever. i have an issue with dr mcnulty. he is arrogant, thinks he knows everything, will not accept other doctors suggestions etc. i had terrible back pain, went to a spine specialist, said it was "farmers back", (another idiot) went to my nurse practioner who said the pain i was experiencing was indeed from my lymphoma. i was going through chemo at the time, went to see mcnulty told him what she said. he said "she doesnt know what she is talking about with a "wave of disregard), w/o an exam, he never touched me or checked me during that visit, waved me out with a prescription for pain meds. turns out, i graduated a few months later only to be sent to oncology radiology who were great. i had a tumor in the same area that was 5"X4" in my back where all the pain was coming from. the radiologist showed me my films which mcnulty Never Even offered and i was informed that we could have seen all our films from the beginning. didnt have any other dealings with any of the other doctors there, but mcnulty, w/o some much arrogance could have found that tumor that day, months before and maybe it wouldnt have gotten so big. mcnulty thinks he is always right no matter what, his bedside manner sucks, he is an azzhhole. i am cured but i think it could have been quicker if he wasnt so arrogant in the first place. avoid mcnulty. azzwipe! Thank God for healing me and giving doctors the resources to do so.

Cape Fear Cancer Specialists admitted me in 4/16 with Blue Value insurance and told me that I would be billed as inpatient insurance. New Hanover Regional Medical Center took over the practice and has been trying to bill me as an outpatient insurance claim ever since I finished treatment. I am still trying to get my bill of approximately $4000 straightened out at the date of this review. Blue Cross representatives and insurance staff at CFCS assured me that I was admitted as an inpatient but the NHRMC billing center in Charlotte, NC has harassed me to pay the outpatient copay for months, even cold calling my home and asking for personal and health data by phone. Fortunately, I asked for and received authorizations at the beginning of my treatment and have proof that I was admitted and authorized as an inpatient in case I need to seek legal assistance. This incident should be a warning to verify the terms of your admission at CFCS and NHRMC and get the paperwork from CFCS and NHRMC prior to treatment. I was often referred to disparagingly as a "Blue Value" patient and a "potential write-off" (I kid you not) while receiving treatment there and made to feel like a second class patient while receiving my treatment. I have since transferred my care to UNC Hospital where I drive 3 hours but I would not return or recommend others to seek treatment at CFCS or NHRMC. Their first priority is the "God Almighty Dollar"and not patient care.

After 19 years of being a cancer survivor I was diagnosed with a recurrence. This practice never once discussed what portion my insurance would pay and what amount I would be responsible for. I tried to make a payment at the Waterford office and was told once they didn’t know how to take my payment and a co-pay at the same time, and then I was told I didn’t have a balance.
So today I received a notice from a collection agency. The billing department is in Charlotte, not even locate in Wilmington, the lady was not helpful at all. All she could say was contact the collection agency over and over. Not willing to take my payment.
What a wonderful experience to find out your cancer has come back and then in 120 days I get a notice from a collection notice.
The office staff wants to be so friendly but not once did they ever discuss the cost of my monthly shots. Keep in mind that these monthly shots are $6,900 the insurance I have charges $3,900 and they never discussed a payment plan or the cost of these shots. My insurance pays a huge amount of this expense but the deductible is what I owe. Think this thoroughly before you decide to go thru treatment. I do plan to discuss this issue with my physician on my next appointment.

Be very wary of Cape Fear Cancer Specialists. My Mother contracted glioblastoma. After a successful surgery they were supposed to call to start chemo. After a month they did not call. We called several times and it still took another month until the chemo/radiation treatments began. For such an aggressive cancer it is very important to treat it promptly. Chemo/radiation should have started 2-3 weeks after surgery.

My Mother started going to the Duke brain tumor center due to this fiasco. The chemo orders still went through Cape Fear Cancer specialists. Duke decided to change the dosage and frequency of the chemo. Well, low and behold Cape Fear Cancer Specialists put in the wrong order, not once, but twice. After numerous followups we finally received the correct dosage. In the meanwhile my Mother went 19 days without chemo, with worsening symptoms. Fortunately she has improved but we don't know what damage may have been prevented.

The administration at this office is horrid. Unfortunately folks in Wilmington don't have much choice. If you have to use this office, stay on top of them, call every day and march into their office if you have to.
