The atmosphere is good. Room and bed are clean. Interior is modern. But breakfast is not as good as the 4 stars hotel. The options are poor and the taste is not delicious. The staff rarely smile so i can't feel the hospitable when staying there. There is an unpleasant smell always in elevators and room when come in. Swimming pool is small and it's opposite to the main street. It looks so ridiculous if someone stands on the pool.

Kids running around everywhere, screaming and crying. Room walls didn't seem to dampen sound at all. While the staff was polite, even a simple request to buy a bottle of water or Coke seemed to confuse them, as they pointed us to a market 1km away. Maybe the hotel doesn't have any drinks for slae outside of the restaurant. Either way, definitely not a four star experience. Breakfast buffet was good though.

There is not much choice when it comes to Western food in Ha Long so I thought I'd give this a try.
The service got off to a rocky start, first I was brought the main menu, then the pasta menu, and finally the drinks menu. This set the trend, whilst staff were friendly, they were also very inattentive and getting another drink or even the bill proved to be a challenge.
The interior is typical chain hotel coffee shop style and it was quite noisy, with lots of Vietnamese kids screaming and running around.
The food was mediocre at best. I had the Calamari rings. OK, but I have had better in a pub. The salmon steak tasted OK but had the thickness of a postal stamp. Vegetables were way undercooked and cold and, as the plate was also cold, the fish also became cold immediately. The highlight were the mashed potatoes, some of the best I have had in a while.
The floor around my table was quite dirty and the table wobbly, one of my pet hates.
I would go back given the lack of choices in Ha Long, otherwise I'd give it a berth.
For the quality, I considered the USD 40 I spent quite pricey.

It's not a typical Novotel experience. Just looks like a ordinary hotel from outside but rooms inside are pretty good. You can here sound from your adjacent rooms, they all are interconnected. Breakfast spread obviously nice. They ask you significant security deposit which is uncommon with Vietnam hotels.
