UPDATE: Just returned from another visit to St. John. My experience with St. John car rental was top notch again. I noticed their Jeeps look to be in great maintenance and clean in comparison to other car rentals that we encountered on the road. We also managed to get one of their convertible tops. It's not completely topless but more then a sunroof. My understanding is they are the only rental that has them on the island. I would highly recommend St John Car Rental!
The best car rental on St. John. The new owners are great! Check in was fast, simple and courteous. We walked 1 block from the dock into their office and were in a jeep in no time. They also allow you to park in their lot after hours which is a huge convenience when going out to dinner in Cruz Bay as parking can be difficult. We will use St. John Car Rental again!

This was our first time renting a car on St. John. We needed two large vehicles for ten people and luggage. My wife and I both drove Ford Explorers. On the 5th day of our vacation, my wife's car suddenly lost acceleration and couldn't get up a hill on the North Shore Road. Needless to say, this was quite scary. She had to maneuver backwards down the hill and as far over on the left side as possible. After sitting with the engine off for a few minutes, she was able to start the car and regain acceleration. She drove directly to St. John Car Rental. Luckily, the owner was present. He immediately hooked the car up to a computer , and commented that they have been having problems with the 2017 Ford Explorers losing acceleration. This did not make me too happy to hear. However, to the owner's credit, he responded to our needs very quickly, which I appreciated. He found another Explorer on another lot for us to use for a day. The next day we had to stop by again to swap out for a Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep Wrangler really was too small for our group ,but it was our only option. No other cars were available. At the time I was grateful no further interruption of our vacation had occurred. However, after returning our 2 rented vehicles, the morning of June 11th, 2 incidents happened which lead me to believe the staff needs better communication and compassion in light of circumstances. While waiting for the Ferry, we received a text that our car was late being returned, and we would be charged an hourly rate. We told the female staff member that the Jeep Wrangler was ours. She was still looking for the broken down Ford Explorer. A short time later, while on the St. John Ferry, she called us to let us know we would be charged an extra $70 for sand removal from the vehicles. After the inconvenience caused by loss of our first vehicle, we found this to be absolutely unreasonable. This is an Island after all. Beaches and sand our part of life here. Instead to discussing this with us, she rudely hung up on us. After reaching St. Thomas, we called back. She said she hung up because we were rude. I had to talk loud to overcome the sound of the Ferry engines. Overall, we were pleased with how the owner handled the first car needing to be replaced. However, I feel the female staff member needs to be trained in better customer service, and better communication with customers. We would definitely rent from them again, as we were very impressed with the owner.

Our jeep was clean and well-maintained, staff were friendly and helpful. I forgot my wallet (including ID, credit cards, and cash!) in the glove box and didn't realize it until we had left the island. I called them up and they found it and shipped it home to me, with everything still in it, for free. That was above and beyond- I would definitely book with them again!

My husband and I just returned from our vacation. This was our first time renting from St. John Car Rental and we were very pleased with the friendly, courteous and efficient staff. The owner was very accommodating, allowing us to park in their lot for our BVI day trip. Thank you! We plan on renting from this company again when we return in January : )

We have been to beautiful St. John twice in the last year and are going again in a few weeks. Working with the owners and staff at St. John Car rental has been wonderful. The service is outstanding! Our experience was effortless; from arranging for after-hours car pick up from the owners themselves, to an easy car return after touring the island. They also gave us great advice on locations to visit. The cars are well cared for and in great condition. Whenever we are on St. John we will be renting from St. John Car Rental!
