Australia muslim women at brighton; First Fleet of settlers used Muslims from coastal Africa and the islands under the British Empire, for labour and as navigators. There were also a number of convicts who were sent to Australia for the crime of ‘disobedience’. Most of these early Muslims inter-married with the local community and their descendants were assimilated into the society. Little is known about them as they left no traces behind, except for a few scattered references to their names.
